Hello, I would greatly appreciate help with a further take on my previous query. This new project is of great importance to our local community: An inaugural concert given on our restored Holy Cross Organ by James O'Donnell, master organist of Westminster Abbey. I have captured some stunning content but there is a problem....
The concert is in 10 sections, with each section requiring most careful synchronization of up to 7 tracks. I would like to place a 'barrier' or 'breakpoint' after each section to ensure that content added for subsequent sections can in no way disturb the previous sections. I have noticed that, even with ripple editing, it is quite possible for tracks to become unsynchronized when adding later content.
I have experimented with saving each section as an AVCHCD .m2t file but there are double-compression artifacts when re-encoded for DVD.
Or, is it possible to save each section as a separate VS project and then "Open-Append" each project in turn to create one master project?
Or, is it possible to place 'barriers' in the one single project?
Many thanks indeed for any help - this is my most important project to date.
Philip

Re: VS ProX6: 'Barriers' Between Multiple Sections of Projec
Hi Philip
You may be best to use a separate VSP/project for each section, that will of course require 10 projects.
Once all projects have been edited you can render/convert each to your chosen output file/video.
Batch Convert will allow you to add the 10 VSP’s, converting all in one go.
If you wish you could then combine all video files to create a single video.
However adding the ten individual files (or indeed the 10 vsp’s) to the burner module will create a menu link for each.
Then you can select to play all or individual videos.
You mention using Avchd and DVD, so what are the properties of the original video files?
As for Barriers—there is no auto way to do that but you could simply add a Colour clip between each section, indicating the end and start points.

Re: VS ProX6: 'Barriers' Between Multiple Sections of Projec
Thank you very much Trevor,
I am experimenting as I work through the project, to see if Smart Package will help. I'm also double checking that all tracks are locked with ripple editing. I will of course look into your initial suggestion. It will take a little time but perhaps I can report back when I have some conclusion.
The ideal solution, however, would be the ability to insert a 'barrier' in the timeline that would prevent any further inserts from interfering with the previous content - essentially 'locking down' all previous content. Accurate synchronization across multiple tracks is a time consuming process and a fragile thing that can easily be upset by further inserts, as I've discovered. I'm sure this requirement must be encountered quite often when a long video is composed of many small discrete segments, each of which must be accurately synchronized across multiple tracks. Perhaps this can be looked at by Corel?
With thanks

Re: VS ProX6: 'Barriers' Between Multiple Sections of Projec
Philip, this is indeed a massive project
I will advice you to edit each part differently and than save them as finished templates 1-10.
Than you can combine the templates and maintain them synchronized.

Re: VS ProX6: 'Barriers' Between Multiple Sections of Projec
Thanks very much for your patience guys! I am going down the route of creating separate VSP projects for each section of the project - it's working OK so far.
Now, (this is where I appreciate your patience!) I see for the first time that I can go into "Share" with nothing loaded into the timeline and add VSP files into the "Add Media" timeline. I see that the separate VSP projects are added as separate "packages" into the timeline - thus I assume there's no possibility of loss of synch between the "packages"? If so I think this is where I need to be!
But is there any advantage to creating templates instead of just using the VSP files directly? The VSP "packages" appear to be pretty self-contained...
As a quick illustration of what I'm doing, here's an introductory clip using two cameras and an auditorium recorder - all separate, so you can see why sync is essential. I use a third camera for the auditorium and lectern, not shown in this clip:
http://youtu.be/Tvli6oJ-e_4
Incidentally I find the Panasonic HC-X920 quite inferior in low light compared to the Canon 6D in video mode. 6D video quality is quite stunning but of course it can't zoom and focus on the fly, as the Panasonic can. The pedal camera is the wonderful Canon G12 - a really neat little box that provides excellent quality and lasts forever on batteries.
Thank you again,
Philip

I guess the full shot was the canon's.pgp566 wrote: Incidentally I find the Panasonic HC-X920 quite inferior in low light compared to the Canon 6D in video mode. 6D video quality is quite stunning but of course it can't zoom and focus on the fly, as the Panasonic can. You can't expect a ~3% size mos of the X920 to be as good as 100% full frame size cmos of the 6D in low light.
- I would have cropped a bit the upper part of the legs shot and fading it at it's end.
(I have also the G12, but I hardly do video with it)

Re: VS ProX6: 'Barriers' Between Multiple Sections of Projec
Hi Philip
When you use VSP Project Files in the burner module they are rendered (Convert Title) to a temp video file, these files being used to burn the disc.
Each file added to the burner module, either Video or VSP will create a link on the main menu (Title Menu)
You can set the Navigation Controls to play these Titles, there will be a slight pause between the end and start of the next Title.
Rendering the files in the burner module does work but has caused some problems for some users.
It is recommended that you first render your project to a video file.
From the Edit Timelines rendering the VSP to a compliant video file can overcome those problems, then we add Video Files not VSP’s, there will be no Convert Title, no further rendering of the video is necessary.
If you wish seamless playback between the 10 projects then you will have to render all 10 as one video file. (or VSP)
Adding the video file to the burner module will burn again without further rendering.
This is the approach I would use
1 / edit each project, 10 separate projects, keeping in mind a seamless transition between each.
2 / Render each project to a Compliant Video File, possibly using Same as First Video will use the original files properties, providing they are compliant, suitable to burn a bluray disc.
Play each to check quality.
3 / Combine all 10 to one video file,
Add all 10 video files to a new project and render again to your chosen output file for a standard DVD that would be Mpeg2 -- Manage the data rate to create files small enough to fit to disc. (8000kbps for 60 minutes of video.)
4 / Now I have a compliant DVD Mpeg2 video file at approx 4Gb, a DVD holds 4.3 Gb of data
Use that video file to burn a disc.
Start a new project – Share Create Disc –Add media-Add Video file.
Philip
What is the total length of the 10 projects, this will determine the data rate to use and indeed if they will fit to one disc?
