X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
I create BluRay movies disks by incorporating several edited rendered movies. No problems with the first few disks. I decided to take some 25 rendered movies that were used to create AVCHD disks without any problems and use the files to create BluRay movie disks for wider compatibility. I checked the movies by playing in X7 and VLC movie player. No problems. I used the create BluRay disk function and added movies to the que. I previewed the final movie compilation and it seemed fine. Plenty of free disk space, Checked box for "don't ..... compatible mpeg files." When I played the burned disk, the first movie to be incorporated only plays for a second before jumping to the next movie. No way will the first movie play. If I make a another disk and move the movie to the second spot it burns and plays fine. Can't understand what has happened when the 1 st few disks were fine, and the preview is fine. All movies shot with AVCHD Canon camcorder. I did relocated *.vsd saves and working location for burning files from the defaults on C: to D: because of space problems on C:, an SSD drive. The prep video files are still stored on C:videos by X7 and can't see a way to change that default. The original videos are located on D:
Thanks,
Greg

Greg

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hi Greg
I don’t understand what is happening to cause this problem other than the first video being different or corrupt in some way.
I assume all videos are using the same properties. Can you check that…
Try rendering the first video again using the properties of the second video.
How
Make sure from F6 that Show messages is ticked
Start a new project, add the second video should prompt you to match the project properties, yes to that. Check the project properties do indeed match the video file.
Remove the video file to add the first video , render to Share Same as “project properties”
Try using the new first video to burn a disc.
If you choose to Create Bluray Folder that will save the files to your pc, you can play the folder using a compatible media player to play the menu structure, VCL will not play the menu?
At least it will save on disc/coasters. I have not found a free player that will play the menu…
When you finally press Burn the process should start with Create Menu, if it starts with Create Title then the video files are being rendered, “re do not convert Compliant Mpeg files” which should be ticked,
I don’t understand your comment
“The prep video files are still stored on C:videos by X7 and can't see a way to change that default.”
Working Folders…
Default “Edit” Working Folder location can be changed from F6 General Tab
The Burner working folder is a different beast, press f6 from the burner module, this location saves any temporary files created when rendering in the burner module.
There is also a default My Project folder, to save VSP’s,
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\My Projects
You can save the VSP to any location on the pc, I usually allocate the same folder as my video files, maybe creating a sub-folder.

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hello,
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to follow them. I discovered that it isn't just the first video that is not included on the BluRay disk. It can be any movie(s) or sometimes none and they all work. What's is odd is I can play the movie that isn't incorporated on the BluRay disk with VLC media player or within X7. If I watch the preview of the created BluRay within X7 which may include 4+ individual movies, it also plays fine. I did discover that turning off "do not convert....mpeg files" in the burning menu, results in larger files when added to the que. This may (not sure) increase the chance of success. The movies that don't play show for a second or so before jumping to the next video on the disk. However, the preview that plays from the menu on the disk will play for 10 seconds or so before repeating. These movies were mostly recorded in the lower avchd HD setting that matched AVCHD disk requirements. A few were recorded with a point and shoot and then rendered to work on the AVCHD disks. I am lost on the procedure of creating the BluRay on a HD to play to see if it's OK and then burning to disk. Already have too many coasters or disks missing playable movies listed in the menu. Regarding temp files. I find that when selecting files to work with and/or edit, they are added to c:video folder. This folder can quickly consume all of SSD drive space. I can move them after the fact but must use the relink function for each file rather than the folders within c:video created by each movie creation. X7 could certain use more detailed info about formats, compression types, and the precise implications of many of the menu and sub menu options. For example, I couldn't find any info about the option to convert or not compliant mpeg files.
Thanks
Greg

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
On the final page of the burning module, untick the Create Disc option and instead choose 'Create Blu-Ray Folder' option. VLC will be able to play the folder for you. And the folder is the exact structure of what goes onto an actual disc.I am lost on the procedure of creating the BluRay on a HD to play to see if it's OK and then burning to disk.
If you can't initially see the "Create Blu-Ray folder" option, then click on the double arrow as shown in the attached image. (It is of a DVD, but is the same for Blu-Ray, though with Blu-Ray you don't get an ISO option...)

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Thanks. Giving it a try right now. If the file plays ok, how do I use it to create the bluray disk? Should 'convert compliant files be checked or not? There is a big jump increase with these files when reconverted compared to 'no
Thanks

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Some say you can simply transfer the folder to a disc as you would a file, using Windows, but I have never had success with that method. Instead, you will find programs like Nero or Roxio can do it. But if you don't have those, the freeware ImgBurn does a great job-- though read the instructions before you use it.
As for the difference in size, your AVCHD files -- which are already Blu-Ray compliant and hence don't need conversion -- use a form of compression which keeps them small. If that box is not ticked, then they are being converted to Blu-Ray mpeg-2 which is less compressed and hence, larger. (The conversion properties are in the window above the 'do not convert' box.)

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Thanks again,
Will try without reconverting. In the Blu-ray folders, what file do I play in VLC to review the movie? I have Nero, which I use to copy disks and create data disks. However, what function do I use to copy? the Blu-ray folders (all?) to the disk? Sorry for all the questions, but answers from Corel are illusive at best.
Thanks
Greg

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
If you look under Media across the top of VLC, the drop-down menu includes "Open Folder". Just navigate to where you have the BD folder. In the Blu-ray folders, what file do I play in VLC to review the movie?
If you choose Nero Express, choose Video as the output, then BDMV as the specific output. On the next page, highlight BDMV then drag and drop all the folders/files in your Blu-Ray folder using the Add button. Then highlight the Certificate folder and do the same with the contents of the Certificate folder in your Blu-Ray folder. If you use Nero Burning ROM, then choose BDMV Video as the output, then do much the same in the BDMV and Certificate folders which appear over to the left of burning page.I have Nero, which I use to copy disks and create data disks. However, what function do I use to copy? the Blu-ray folders (all?) to the disk?

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hello,
I followed your instructions. When I played the video files in the Blu-ray folders, of the 14 files in the que, 5 were not present. They were on the menu pages. I went to VLC player and played the files that were missing and they played just fine. I proceeded to use Nero Express and burn a Blu-ray disk. Every missing file in the Blu-ray folder would play or flash on the screen for about 1 second before skipping to the next video. Strangely, a file that wouldn't play on an earlier disk was added to this disk and played just fine. Very frustrating as I have always liked using X7, and really don't want to switch to another program. Never see any error messages. I can't understand why selected files may or may not work but will play within the X7 and VLC. My PC should have plenty of power being an Intel I7, 24 gigs ram, Nvidia gtx 650 (or 640) Ti video, SSD and 2 terr HD. I do have all hardware acceleration turned on. Could that be an issue?
Thanks again,
Greg

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Turned off hardware acceleration and only 3 out of 8 videos were converted or in the Blu-ray folder. All play in VLC. Very discouraging. I guess time to look at some other programs and a new learning curve.

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hi Greg
When you play the discs are you playing on your computer or are you playing via a Bluray Player connected to your television.
Can you confirm you have the same problems when playing on a BD Player to TV.
For the Computer download the trial version of WinDVD Pro
http://www.windvdpro.com/en/default.html
I am not advising that you purchase this program, just run the trial.
Ken uses another player, the name of which escapes me at the moment, sure Ken will remind me….

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Disks are being played with a LG player connected to a hd tv. Sending the output to bluray folders instead of a disk shows what has been skipped. Turning off 'do not convert compliant...'' Seems to reduce the problem but fewer movies can put on a disk. The movies were created with an earlier X version and saved as MPEG that matched the first movie file, lower spec 1080 hd that matched requirements for avchd disks. Seems that the data rate was lower at about 16 Mbps.

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hi Greg
You seem to indicate that deselecting “Do Not Convert Compliant Video Files” cures the playback problem.
When you deselect “Do Not Convert” all videos used will be recoded/rendered to a new temporary file using the properties in that panel. The data rate used (35000kbps) may be larger than the original video files (16800kbps, as a guess) thus producing a larger file.
You can edit the settings in the panel to use the same data rate as the original video files, that will allow you to fit all video to the disc.
Select -- Change Mpeg settings—Customise – Compression tab—Set Data rate to 168000kbps
If that process works then I would assume there is some difference in the properties used for your original video files.
Can you provide the properties of your files and confirm that all are identical or not as the case maybe.

Thanks for tips. Will try later today or tomorrow. No apparent issues using movies from same camcorder but set to higher hd setting matching bluray standard and movies rendered same as first clip and disk created with Dont recode.

Re: X7: Movies dropped when making BluRay disks
Hello,
I may have discovered the solution with members suggestions. I turned off 'do not... Compliant video' and then adjusted the Mbps from 35000 to 18000. About 10 movies were incorporated onto a bluray with a problem. All the movies were either 16000 or just said variable rate. Still strange how some would not work on the first attempt but might on the second. Only two canon camcorders were used for all the videos and they were set for the lower range of 1080p hd to match the avchd disk format. This avoid down rendering on a slower computers
