I recently had to get a new laptop, because my old one died, and now I seem to have an issue with audio when I try to edit. The clips and soundfiles will play perfectly when I preview them individually, but the minute I switch to project mode, the video will run, but there will be no sound whatsoever. This goes for both video and music track alike. I haven't tried rendering anything yet to see if there's any issues there, because seeing as I generally make music videos - without the ability to replay I cannot begin to edit in the first place.
Now, I've been using Corel Video Studio for years without on several different laptops running different versions of windows and this has never been an issue until this particular laptop which is running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I pretty much only use WMV and MP3 files for my editing.
No sound when previewing on the project timeline

Re: No sound when previewing on the project timeline
I run VS X7 on a Win 8.1 64 bit computer with no problems, so it is not the operating system which is causing the problem.
The only thing I can think of is that successive versions of VS have given some users problems when it comes to certain types of mp3 -- particularly mp3 made with the LAMEmp3 codec. I know you have probably used mp3 successfully with VS in the past. But if you convert your mp3 to standard .wav format, does it cause a similar problem? (If you don't have an audio editing/conversion program, the freeware Audacity program does a good job.)

Re: No sound when previewing on the project timeline
It can't be the mp3 causing issues, because the same thing is happening with the wmv-files. And also, the mp3 (like the wmv) play perfectly when I play the file itself within VS, it's just when I switch to project mode that no sound will come out. I have experienced files in the past that because of codec-issues didn't play sound at all, but when that was the case, they wouldn't even play sound when I played them individually, so it has to be some other issue.Ken Berry wrote:I run VS X7 on a Win 8.1 64 bit computer with no problems, so it is not the operating system which is causing the problem.

Re: No sound when previewing on the project timeline
Really hoped someone could help me figure out this problem, but here's an update on my situation at least:
I've now tried rendering a clip both with its regular sound and with the mp3-file, and both videos are rendered with sound, so the only issue seems to be getting audio on the playback of the timeline itself. So the files are just fine, playing them individually within the program is no problem and rendering is no problem - just having sound of any kind on the project playback...
