Re: X8 CROP TOOL "live"

Post by Jean-Luc »

In X2, when using the Crop Tool, (I'm using the Pixels Dimensions), the values Width and/or High were changing during the side dragging of the cropping rectangle.
So I could stop to move the side when the desired dimensions were obtained.
This feature was removed in X6 and X7. Please, enable this feature.

In X7, when adjusting the crop, the value don't change until you release the mouse. And you need to drag again and again until you reach the precise dimensions. When working for web sites, images need to be cropped in precise pixels dimensions. Actually, it is a pain !

Or I'm missing something ?
:(

Hi Jean-Luc,

Using X7 Free Form Crop and I can see the pixel dimensions continually changing as I drag the mouse. I do not have to release the mouse to see them. Here is a screen shot to illustrate what I see. If you are talking about something else, let us know.

Again Hi Jean-Luc.
Perhaps you should have posted this first as a general problem before posting as a request here.
As already mentioned as you drag the crop out the values change down the bottom right.
However dragging can be awkward in getting an exact pixel value.
If you required a crop value of 1300 x 1950 pixels you can just type those values in the Height and Width boxes at the top.

But you are correct the Height and Width values changed at top left and also showed at bottom right under X2 whereas it only shows in real time at bottom right under X7.

This "special feature" was introduced in X4 and continued through to X7. (Apparently Corel in their wisdom decided that all those moving numbers top left and bottom right were distracting and could possibly cause epileptic fits :-) or perhaps they made a boo boo and broke something with their change?? Naaa!! That has never been known to happen with any program??!!)

X8 CROP TOOL "live"

Post by Tadjio »

I think Jean-Luc means the pixel values in the Tool Options - Crop Tool display. The Pixel Dimensions (W and H).
Yes I remember they used to change (many years ago).
It is a pain.

I don't know...
It is not a general problem.
It is a lack of functionality.
So, I suggested to enable the change in real time on the top, where all needed specifications are available in the program and where numbers are changing.
I'am not accustomized to look at the bottom of the PSP window, I admit.

But, as the real time values are visible on the bottom, other improvements should be made before this.

PS : When doing precise pixel cropping, I enlarge the image (zoom). So, it is not difficult to crop exactly where I want to do it.

Best regards,
Jean-Luc

Re: Autosave in Edit Mode

Post by Jean-Luc »

Hi all,
I have just discovered in X7 that Autosave doesn't save the work in progress when in Edit Mode.

What I suggest for X8 :
a REAL autosave setting in Edit Mode.
If enabled, the Autosave feature should save the file in it's state, every x minutes, for example whith an incremential number (FilaName_01, FileName_02, etc.).
Actually, if the user doesn't save the file during the working process, all is lost if PSP crashes, sometimes hours of work.
Don't tell me PSP never stops to work...
:D

After 3 months of use, and a first service pack, when I see what became PSP X7, perhaps no PSP X8 could be the best wish.

As Windows 8 jump to Windows 10, a jump to "PSP XX Supremacy" would be preferable in future. Wait for Windows 10 to launch the new PSP, because experience with PSP teach us that, unfortunately, the new operating system will literally explode the number of bugs, for sure. The bugs before + bugs after = Au secours ! :?

For now, a one shot release of a new "PSP Transition", a well-oiled program, fast and furious, and ... reliable!
It's all I wish now  I think you have enough to do now with the current release, no ? This program has the same number of bugs than features today, maybe more... enough playing now, work !

Nine years ago, in the Corel newsgroup, we talked with Jean-Luc about the possibility of using a new tool for those that make composition and image editing, the mousebox. Is it possible to create a tool like that today, or something similar, for quick access to frequently used tools ? This mousebox is displayed as long as the Insert key is pressed

THis may not be a common problem, but:
I have just worked on an image, did a number of procedures and eventually obtained what I liked. I saved it as a psp file perhaps to do some work on it later and also to compare and do the same operations on other images.
Now I cannot remember what operations I did, and even saving as a psp file does not save the history.

I would like an extra check box included in the save as dialog box for psp files, to be able to save the history of the image probably as a script ( I know I can do that but I would like it as an auto thing if wanted).

Fast Startup for single file editing

When PSP starts there is a large overhead in loading the photo management database. If I start PSP by right clicking a .jpg and selecting Open/Edit or any other method where it is clear only one file is involved, I would like it to start without loading any of the photo management stuff. This is distinct to starting into the edit workspace with the management tab still present.

PSP X7 startup seems better than X6 but I feel there is still room for improvement.

That would be a nice feature.

Until they do decide to implement his feature (if they ever do), you could try out ACDsee, which lets you quickly open and view photos in full screen. It also supports these other features:
  • - Scroll through images with the mouse wheel.
  • - Supports .pspimage and .psd image formats and many RAW formats.
  • - Open images with third party image editors, like Paint Shop Pro and/or Photoshop.
It isn't free, though it is currently on sale for just $39.99 (normally $59.99), which isn't too bad. The cheaper version is the one with the bigger number (currently ACDsee 18). The more expensive ACDsee Pro 8 just comes with a photo editor, which if you prefer Paint Shop Pro, isn't needed.

I swear I'm not a spammer, I just like the program that much.

Edit mode - add to Tray

Post by Jean-Luc »

I suggest a new feature for X8.

When I'm in Edit mode, I need often to add the current image to "My tray" for future usage.
There is actually no simple way to do it (IMHO).

What I want :
- permit to drag and drop the selected image which is open on the workspace to the active Tray
or
- right-click on the image and have an option to put it in the active Tray.

Best regards,

Currently using X7. I bought X4 after version 9 but found myself going back to 9. After buying a new computer (Windows X8, 20 Gig Ram, fastest processor on the market, etc.) I thought it was time to give X7 a chance. Boy, was I wrong!
Here's my wish list. It's a little tough, but I´ve paid my fees, and I'm not getting what I paid for!

- Get the programmers to take a course on software memory management. I don't mean to be rude, but how do you explain that I can work just fine with PS9 and over 40 opened files (some of them pretty big), on a 5 year old laptop with barely 4 gigs of Ram and get into trouble all the time when using X7 on a Pentium 7 desktop computer with over 20 gigs of RAM and a pretty good graphix card?
- Perhaps sack the person responsible for the dark color scheme? (Microsoft did sack a number of designers for getting rid of the start menu in Windows 7 and getting the worst feedback ever) What's wrong with you people?? haven't you read the number of people who hate it? are you deaf?? So many years of college and you can't just add an option to make it simple to change the colour scheme and make many people happy??
- Ok, maybe this can be done already, but why can't I just see all my opened files at a glance like I did on PS9?? Why do I need a new tab for each file? whose idea was this?? I often need to open several files within one tab, I find it extremely difficult to do this now. (and yes, I'm used to some pretty sophisticated software, been using windows software for more than 20 years!)
- When I paste an image into another one (Control + E) and I'm adjusting it, often, I can only see the result when I let go of the mouse, not when I'm moving it. This never happened to me with PS9. Really awful. Please fix it!
- Why can't I see a better preview of the effects in the effects browser? the image displayed is too tiny, you've copied the routine from PS7 (i.e. the jasc version!!) and have never updated it!! so sad! Do you think you can make customers happy by simply giving the program a different wrapping but working very little on the code?
- One would expect major filter improvements since version PS8. WRONG. Hardly any new filters. In fact, things have taken a turn for the worse, as a lot of the plugins that I use on ps9 DO NOT WORK on X7. Why do you guys get paid to break things?? (for example, some of Dragonfly's plugins no longer work, some of Richard Rosenman's plugins don't work either, some of the famous Redfield plugins dont' work either, to name a few).
- Is it so difficult to add a proper sphere filter to Paintshop? I'm currently using other programs to do this.
- Haven't you noticed that animated gifs are coming back, and they're coming back STRONG? I think you might have. Why have you made it so difficult for people to find Animation shop?
- Sometimes the eraser tool works erratically. I mean, c´mon, be serious! who does the product testing before release??

and so many other things. Why do I still use PS? because it's what I've been using for many years, and despite all those things, I´m still quite productive with it, but it hurts to see what this group of amateurs are doing to the program. :(
