Also, if you have a Facebook account, make a suggestion there.
Corel doesn't participate on the forums, but they do from time to time read these posts. So they might see it here, but for best chances at results make it public.

I found out how to report the bug, and I reported it.Matagalpa wrote:I have to admit I haven't done that yet, but you can send feature-specific feedback via the on-line help (White Balance dialog -> F1 -> scroll to the bottom of the page -> click Send feedback link)
The technical support at Corel is amazingly poor. You can get technical support on just ONE issue for the first thirty days -- by mail, not even by phone! -- and then you are on your own.

If it's a different method than what was suggested here, please share.CMurd wrote: I found out how to report the bug, and I reported it.
Re: Wish list for Paint Shop Pro version X8
The method you suggested is for sending feedback regarding the help files, not the program. I just went to the Corel site and clicked on Support. I then viewed my registered products. X7 wasn't on the list (even though I registered it a week ago), so I registered it again. I then received an email that told me how to get my one instance of technical support.Matagalpa wrote:If it's a different method than what was suggested here, please share.
One thing's for sure, Corel doesn't make it easy for you. Going to the Corel site and clicking on Support didn't tell me how to get support.

Re: Wish list for Paint Shop Pro version X8
Top priority for me would be an over-haul of color management. While I can do most of the things with your CM "as is", it is awkward and a couple of things are broken:
1 - Do away with having to close all images when changing Color Working Space. Of course, this would require some sort of policy specification re what to do about images having the color rug pulled out from under them but ... you asked;-)
2 - Report all image color spaces. Presently, this is usually left blank in image information and I have to use a different program to display this.
3 - For RAW files, report the camera's native color space (the way Capture One does ... for example "Generic D800").
4 - If I shoot in Adobe RGB, PSP seems not to recognize my preference to "Use Embedded Profiles" and applies the Working Color space. Not really sure what happens, actually, but it's not right. I almost always work from RAW/NEF files so this is a minor issue - but maybe not for some others.
5 - The RAW Lab is weak. We need more sliders (as an example) for things like highlight and shadow recovery, rather than presets. Furthermore the displayed image is too small.
I realize you are trying to provide a simplified, more readily understood approach to CM but those of us who have migrated from Adbobe CS, at least, would really welcome a "Pro" CM option ... more like what's in CS.
6 - I use scripting a lot and much prefer it to Adobe "Actions". There is, however, a problem when a script is resizing an image in "Silent" mode only - the aspect ratio of the image is often not preserved even if you specified this.
I have workarounds for all of this except item "1" but they are irritating. I'd be delighted to get just a couple of things in the next iteration ... 1, 2 and 6 being top of the list.
PSP is fantastic. Coming from the PS/CS world I have no problem saying PSP is the better product for the way I work and I have been a photog for 50 years.
Best wishes,
gk.

Yeah, the aspect ratio thing has been a bother for a while. The scripts allow you to specify your aspect ratio. And the aspect ratio of each individual image is actually calculated by the dialog not the command. So we have to enter in the aspect ratio we want to use.
So to deal with this we manually edit the script to calculate the aspect ratio on a per-image basis using
At least I do.
For those unfamiliar with Python 2.7, you need to make sure at least one of the numbers is a "real" or "floating point" number otherwise Python auto rounds it to a whole number. That's what the Num * 1.0 portion is for.
Either that or you can use percentages for the new size. Then it won't matter what aspect ratio you use.
It would indeed be nice to see a built in constant or option that tells the function to calculate the aspect ratio for us and have it default to that when recording scripts.

Code: Select all
'AspectRatio':((App.ActiveDocument.Width * 1.0) / App.ActiveDocument.Height),

Measuring tool needed
I'd like to see a measuring tool in PSP. I've been using the selection tool, but it only measures horizontally and vertically. Also, the measurement is only visible in the status bar while I am holding down the mouse button. After using the selection tool, I then have to undo it.
I take product photographs (jewelry components), and I don't use a tripod. In order to make everything approximately the same scale, I have to measure an item in the picture and use that to scale the image. But the item that I'm measuring isn't always lying vertically or horizontally. Sometime I have to rotate the image, measure the object, and then undo the rotation.
The measuring tool that I envision would work like this:
* It would measure by pixel or whatever other unit the user specifies.
* It would measure items that are askew -- i.e., not perfectly vertical or horizontal. If the item is askew, it would give a pixel length for the item as if it were not askew.
* It would show the measurement in the status bar even after the mouse button is released.
* The measurement would not have to be undone, as is the case with the selection tool. Thus, the user could measure multiple elements in the image and the program would not recognize any of them as an action.
If there is already a measuring tool in PSP, I'm not aware of it.

- - Healing Brush (where you can right click on one area to copy, then left click and have it clone and blend, similar to Photoshop; not just clone like the clone brush, which doesn't blend)
- - Spot Healing Brush (basically Magic Fill, but as a brush)
- - Improve the Performance, similar to Jasc PSP 9. Moving "Manage" and "Adjust" tabs into their own apps would be great if this helps performance. Zooming in and out with the mouse wheel almost becomes unbearable with larger images. One of the best things I liked about Jasc PSP 9 was the quick performance compared to Photoshop. Photoshop is actually getting pretty good performance wise, especially for larger images.
- - Open SVG's as Vector images and the ability to save again as an SVG (as Monteiro mentioned)
- - Bring back Animation Shop would be great! (as Spitfrog mentioned) If you bring it back though, think about performance!
- - The ability to snap layers, vectors and texts to other layers, vectors and texts (and also to the edges of the canvas). And also able to align any side of a layer to another (for example align the top of one layer with the top of another layer).
- - Snap the Crop tool to the edges of layers. Also maybe to automatically crop the empty space to the layers (similar to the "Fit Canvas" in Adobe Fireworks).
- - The ability to save as .ICO for Favicons.
- - Change the brush size with the [ and ] buttons on the keyboard (similar to Photoshop).

At the suggestion of one of the forum members the long discussion about a Local Tone Mapping Tool has been split off into it's own topic - which you can find here :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 76&start=0

I just want the software to work correctly. Never mind coming up with added extras, just fix the software so we can be happy. PSP is a very good programme but been spoilt by poor development.

Re: Wish list for Paint Shop Pro version X8
I would like to see a better opacity slider in the layers section. Grabbing the bottom corner of a small box and sliding are difficult for me.
I would also like to see a way to refine the selection tools on the fly. As it is, I guess at the selection criteria (color, brightness, etc.) and the tolerance, and I make the selection. If it isn't adequate I then deselect all, change the criteria or tolerance and reselect. And so it is back and forth and back and forth. It would be useful if having once made the selection I could then change the tolerance or criteria and then the selection could be recomputed. This way I could refine the selection by tweaking the parameters and skip redrawing.
While we're at it, it would be nice to see a preview of the blend modes. While the blend mode list is displayed, mousing over the mode would bring up a small preview window showing the effect or better show the effect in the main edit window. As it is, you guess at a blend, click it, go back try another, go back try another, etc.
