Yellowed areas in old film

Yellowed areas in old film
In scanning my old 35mm film negatives have yellowed areas, likely from age or incorrect storage. They vary from one third to half the negative. The fade correction improves the photo but the yellowing is still there. How does one correct these areas?

You could duplicate the layer, then apply a Curves Adjustment, click on the lightest part of the yellow in your image to sample.
You can then adjust the opacity of the layer if the adjustment needs a bit of tweaking.

Without seeing the image, it's impossible to give specific advice.Gerald T wrote:In scanning my old 35mm film negatives have yellowed areas, likely from age or incorrect storage. In general, however, whenever the discolouration is limited to an area (as opposed to affecting the entire image) there is no way to avoid having to manually paint in the correction. Whether you use a Color Replacement brush, a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, a Curves adjustment layer, etc., you'll have to manually limit the effect of the correction -- either directly on the image or on a layer mask.
