Upgrades Still Sloppy!
I have used PSP since x2, and I am disappointed that every time I upgrade, the install is always sloppy. Why does Corel insist on keeping all the program folders all my upgrades instead of having one simply folder? Why doesn't Corel move all my plugins to the new plugin folder automatically? Why are the masks, frame folders etc better organized instead of having them in two different places? The right click "Open With" menu are not cleaned either, I don't want to see several PSPs in this menu! This is very sloppy work from a programming perspective. I've continued to complain about it, and yet several upgrades later, you guys still have not fixed it. Please forward this post to whom ever genius is in charge of programming or final approvals for before product release. I have never owned or borrowed any software package that have multiple instances of files and or programs, this isn't standard operation; I don't understand how you can boast a better organized GUI, and yet your filing structure is horrific! Dudes! Come on, this is not professional at all, I expect better, there are way too many who use your product to have this kind of sloppiness going on!! Don't you guys get it!!?? You are not some kind of start-up business, you've been around for a while. Shape up all ready!!! *&%^*Y%^$

Re: Upgrades Still Sloppy!
It's not an "upgrade" in the traditional sense. You are not upgrading or replacing the original install. You actually have two different versions of PSP on your computer working side by side. Which means you can run X2 and X7 at the same time.
And a lot of people like this. What they don't like is not being able to determine at install where they want their personal PSP files to be located. Many would like to be able to pick their old folders and just have it import everything into the new system as well. But the fact that it keeps it seperate is a way of ensuring it plays nicely with other installs.

Yours is one opinion of many. There are many things I like and a few I dislike about installing new versions since 3.12, and I've learned to live with them. The easiest part you're ranting about is the few mouse clicks it takes to uninstall previous versions and clear the context menu -if you want, because you can keep them, which I like.yogirajj wrote:I have used PSP since x2, bla bla...
So no, I'm not going to contact Corel for you, even if I knew how to. This forum is not Corel, not 'you guys', and their customer relations department is very professional, and therefore very frustrating if you let it get to you.
Oh for the good old days when you dealt with real people, adults, no?

Re: Upgrades Still Sloppy!
I understand where your coming from, but this is still unacceptable. I refuse to believe that every person who loves PSP likes to have several folders for every upgrade x2 through x7. If I double click and open up a friend's tube, I should not have x2 load up! This is a poor execution of a product. If the thought process is making considerations of older tube, paintbrush, etc versions, then common sense should tell the programmer you need a "save as version," in the same way Microsoft has it, and every other graphic program! Don't you think? I think PSP is a great product, but I've taken away a lot of points because of this issue. This is obvious to me that the programmers really don't use the product their programming, or maybe your user base are not technical (which I doubt, because you have to have some technical ability to work with images the way we do).LeviFiction wrote:It's not an "upgrade" in the traditional sense. You totally missed my point. I shouldn't have to uninstall anything, the file structures are all unorthodox, and for a real photographer be it professional or semi-pro, organization is important, including file structure. Not every user is interested in just doing family scrapbooks with PSP. Installations should be intuitive, not chaotic.Forriner wrote:Yours is one opinion of many. Re: Upgrades Still Sloppy!
yogirajj, I did not miss your point, I just don't agree with you. I guess that means you missed mine.
A programmer does what he's told to do, though I assume nobody at Corel explicitly tells him to include bugs, that's his or her own initiative. When told to treat every new version installation as a new one, so not an upgrade, that's what he programs. So to me and many others who run several versions here on this forum it's a nice feature. Some professionals as you call them like the assurance that they can keep being productive with the old until they're sure the new works properly and they're familiar with it. That's all. That decision was made by Jasc and later by Corel, so it's not worth getting ulcers over. Could they improve the process, sure, but don't hold your breath.
Just because 'everybody else' does something differently doesn't mean they are right and the other wrong. It only means they do things differently. But, the earth is round because someone did what nobody else did. We adapt.
If it's really as unacceptable as you say, try a different product. But whether you like it or not, you'll have to accept that what's unacceptable to you can be a shrug to another, and her or his major rant is a barely lifted eyebrow to you. That's life, not only on internet.
Have a great Friday.

Re: Upgrades Still Sloppy!
I support Forriner in his statements as well.
I have PSP8, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 on a couple of computers. I like it that way . I can only ever install one version of Photoshop on each computer. CS2 on main computer and PS CC on a laptop.
There are a whole range of PSP users and they are using different versions of PSP and each may mention some different problems with their version that they are familiar with. By having my 7 different versions on the one computer (rather than a different version on 7 computers) , I can just call up the relevan version and try to assist others who are having problems wit their version.
Remember that Jasc / Corel were providing an alternative to the high end Photoshop that brilliant people like yogirrav aspire to. As such it serves well people that don't have much experience with programs and have difficulty in learning a whole new way of doing things.
Such people would also want to keep some of their creations from the past (brushes, picture tubes etc) and if these were to be totally overwritten by a new install they would be disappointed. This is why we have one area for items from corel, and another area in Documents for the user creations.
And as already mentioned, just because Photoshop and others do it that way does not mean that PSP has to do it the same. There is a saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do" .
BTW it is not unique to PSP, I have installed Portrait Professional 10 AND Portrait Professional 11, also Pinnacle Studio 9 and Pinnacle studio 12 and on another computer Pinnacle Studio 12 and Pinnacle Studio 17.
So other programs do allow for multiple versions.
