I have been recording high def videos using nvidia's shadowplay, which saves the audio with the video in a mp4 format. I import the video into X7 (previously the trial, now the full version) and I'm losing audio. I can click the sound mixer and see how much audio imports, and it's only about 5 minutes worth, on a file that's more or less 11 minutes long. So the sound mixer shows the jagged lines from audio, then a flat line where the sound dies. The thing is, I can play the mp4 video file in windows media player and there is audio the whole 11 minutes, no problem. So I don't think it's a codec issue, since the video and audio are fine when played by anything other than Visual Studio X7. Is there something I'm missing, or is this a bug? Thanks for any advice.
Edit:
Seems to be a bug. I just split the mp4 file into smaller pieces, and then imported the smaller clips into X7, and all the audio is there.

Re: X7 mp4 files losing audio
The way editors and players work with files and access codecs is different, so a player may play a file, but an editor may not work with it.
It is common for files that aren't totally compatible with editors to work in small sections but not in large ones.
The problem could be the dimensions of the video file, as it's a screen capture, in which case you might need to alter the way you capture if you wish to use VS to edit.
You could trial other apps or try converting the file

Re: X7 mp4 files losing audio
Thanks for the info, Graham, do you (or anyone else) know how to find out if it's possible to fix this issue without taking the extra step to split videos into smaller pieces? That works, but seems excessive. (Granted this is really my first true foray into video editing, and it's for gaming purposes, maybe this is normal)
I use shadowplay since the nvidia encoder uses the gpu to record, and most games are heavily cpu bound, which allows me to record high def with basically no frame rate loss. (And the game is on one HDD, recording goes to the second HDD) As I said in my first post, shadowplay saves is recordings as an mp4 file type. There's no option to change the file type or encoding. Maybe there's another gpu based recorder software that I could use? I've searched before but the ones I've googled just piggyback on nvidia and don't seem to have the same quality output yet as their other cpu based options. Thanks.

If splitting it into smaller sections works, this is near enough proof the file isn't totally compatible with VS, and in which case your only options are to make smaller projects or totally convert the files before editing.
Your options are, carry on doing this with VS, trial other editing software to see which will work with your file types or use another recorder.
Sorry.
