Hallo,
yesterday I learned about Photohops magnetic lasso and looked for the equivalent in my PSPX3. I found the smart edge selection and at first it seemed to work fine and found the edges in the photo. But when I looked at the result in a more detailed way it didn't work properly: The selection is beside the edge in the photo:

Is this a bug in PSPX3? In Photoshop CS2 the magnetic lasso worked fine, althoug this is not the latest version.
Best regards - Ulrich
PS: At first when I draw the selection with the mouse everything seems to be OK. But when I doubleclick to complete the selection, the line shifts and is located beside the edge. This occurs also when I use the simple point-to-point mode.

Re: Smart Edge Selection not working properly
That looks like a feathering problem . Check that your feathering is set to 0.
Thanks for providing an image showing your problem. Wish a few others would do the same when starting their problem solving request.

Re: Smart Edge Selection not working properly
Hallo hartpaul,
thank you for this hint, it is very helpful. I've checked it and indeed feathering is the reason for this behaviour. However, this is unsatisfying as it makes it impossible to correct the selection after having made a first draft. A workaround may be to make the selection without feathering and apply feathering via the selection menu when the selection is complete.
In Photoshop I could not find such behaviour, it is much better.
Is this the same in later versions of Paintshop?
Thanks again and best regards - Ulrich

Re: Smart Edge Selection not working properly
Even after accidentally including some feathering you can change that with Selections > Modify > Feather and correct it from there.

Re: Smart Edge Selection not working properly
Thanks again for this hint. I tested it and it was necessary to active Selection - Modify - Remove feather. Afterwards I could apply a new value for feather. However the selection didn't match the edge exactly. Photoshops magnetic lasso works much better.
