Can't set project to 2560x1440

Post by Cantisque »

As title states, the option to set a custom frame size in project settings is greyed out no matter what type of video I choose and 2560x1440 does not appear in any of the presets, please help!

Do you actually have video in that frame size? If so, where did it come from? If you are using Video Studio X7, have you ticked, in Preferences > General the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip"? If that is ticked, and you insert the video clip with that frame size, do you get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match the properties of the clip? If so, then you would be able to go to Share > Same As Project Properties.

If not, then I suspect VS just can't deal with that frame size -- which off hand I would have to guess is some variant of 4K video...

These are game recordings, 1440p (QHD), same resolution as my display.

I checked the box, started a new project and it would automatically set the project to the correct size.

Thanks!

Spoke to soon, when I try and render the video, having ticked the "same as project settings" box, nothing happens when I click the "Start" button.

I did a test with this dimensions. Using a different software I produced a short clip 2540X1440 made from Jpegs .
It was uncompressed AVI. I imported it to VSX7 timeline. My project was set to that but....
when I wanted to render it as "same as project settings" I couldn't change the encoder or compression they all grayed out. It could be only be rendered as uncompressed AVI.
So I went to project settings selected AVI profiles > new > and there I could confirm to resolution and compressor. None of the other options will allow me to set resolution.
So I rendered a XVID AVI file.

** Well, I manged to produce on the other software an H.264 2560X1440 .mp4 clip.
I loaded it to VSX7 and you are right, it will not render with those settings, the only way out is as AVI with XVID as I wrote above.

This is my test clip

Would I need to install Xvid to do that? Because the only driver I can choose is the Ulead one by default.
Edit: That worked, but the output isn't as sharp as I'd have liked, I will have to mess with the settings and see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Messing with settings is part of the fun...
Try this profile I made for you, put it the Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7\Ulead.dat\WMV_Profiles folder
Than you can select it for rendering. it's GAME Capture Profile 2560X1440 at 20MB video, 192K audio 25 fps.

And if you need different settings, than open the .prx file in notepad and "mess" the settings to your needs

That looks great, thanks! Unfortunately it seems to always default to 25 FPS instead of 30. I've checked the file in Notepad but I can't see which one I would need to change for this. Really big help though, thanks!

Edit:
Changed avgtimeperframe to 333333 and that fixed it, thanks again!
