studio9

Post by peacefrog »

Hi,
so, i've updated studio8 to .01 and also burning engines and now almost every disc i do has the infamous OOS problem. So much for that.

I am getting ver9, my question is...what is the best way to set it up? Should i remove the old stuff and load ver9 as fresh?
Also, some projects done on ver8...would they interface with ver9?

cheers

If you are going to purchase the upgrade version of VS9, your VS8 must be installed so you can install VS9 upgrade.

Yes, your video projects and rendered files in VS8 are compatible with VideoStudio 9.

After you installed VS9, you may now uninstall VS8. But again, if you need to reinstall VS9, VS8 must be installed.

VS8 and VS9 are indepentdent programs and can be both installed on the same PC and will work independently.

Hi froggy
As far as I know all projects created using VS 8 will open in VS 9, but not the other way round.

The OOS problem may be cured by NOT using Smart Render.
Also
When I installed the trial version 9, the OOS problem seemed to have been cured.
This may have been due to the installation of some shared files used by VS 9.
I did not do extensive tests to confirm this, but felt sure this was the case.

I am now using VS 9, and very happy with the upgrade.

I have not uninstalled version 8 and do not appear to have any problems.

You don't actually need a previous version installed on your system to perform an upgrade installation, you can insert the CD from a previous version to confirm your upgrade eligibility -- the installer will prompt for the disk if it can't find an earlier version of UVS.

And I should add that there is a widely held view here that if at all possible, you should try to get the boxed version of the upgrade (with its own CDs), rather than just downloading it. A lot of people here have had problems with the download.

AFAIK, the upgrade version is the same as the full version, but jigged so that it requires to know that you have a previous version of VS before it will load. In other words, it will do a complete separate install, into a different directory, and you can have both VS 8 and 9 installed and leave it that way if you want. A lot of people have. (I didn't.)

But it seems that there may be at least a small number of common files, so that if you later decide to uninstall VS8, it may delete some of these common files and VS 9 will thus not work properly. As I had already uninstalled VS8 before upgrading to VS9, this did not happen to me, but I suspect that if you have already loaded VS 9 and later uninstall VS8, the uninstall program will as usual tell you that this or that file may be being used by another program -- do you want to install Yes/No -- choose No. Or if you by mistake do delete these common files, you will have to correct VS9. If you have the VS9 install discs, you can go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Software > Ulead Video Studio 9, and then use 'Repair'. This facility is not available in the download version, and you would need to do a complete reinstall of VS9 (inserting the VS 8/7/6/5 disc as already advised).

Sorry, this is just a long-winded way of saying: get the boxed version if you can...

Absolutely.
Remember that poor fellow who was pulling his hair out trying to get
the program to launch properly?
Everyone was trying to help him and after all that he was working with
a corrupted program.
He also had more than one bad download.

Thanks everyone for your replies...

I ended up getting full ver9 (complete not the upgrade...looks cool but imposing with new features- backwards video-wow.)

Is there any new things i should look out for, or basically just keep follow the sticky advice.. (not features, just the way create and save files etc?)

cheers

Hi

I don’t know why they have done this but Version 9 uses two default working folders.

1/ the normal capture / edit folder (File / Preferences)

2 / the burner module working folder
This one does not change when you allocate the first one.

From the burner window click the icon adjacent to the ‘options cogwheel’ select properties.

I think you will enjoy working with VS 9

Good Luck.
