Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Can someone please tell me how to activate the trial version of PaintShop Pro X7?
I have downloaded and installed the software. I then followed the YouTube activation instructions. When I click on the program icon, I am shown a purchase screen, and the video says to click on "Already Purchased". It then tells me to "Enter your serial number as written in your order confirmation email or online receipt". This is a trial version, so I don't have either. Where am I supposed to get a serial number from? Is there another way to activate this trial?
There seems to be no way to contact Corel about this, and I have to say I am less than impressed so far.
Thank you for any help that you can offer.

AFAIK the trial version should work without any activation. Activation only becomes necessary if you are satisfied with the trial (or the trial period runs out) and you decide to purchase the product. That's when you get the activation code. Mind you, based on past experience, we usually recommend that users who decide to buy the product should first totally uninstall the trial version and download the full purchased version and use the activation code on that.
But after you installed the trial version, did you try running it from your desktop by simply clicking on the PSP icon?

Hi Ken, thanks for replying.
The trial software was downloaded from Corel's Free Trials page. The downloaded file is called PSPX7_TBYB30.exe. It installs both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
When I click on either of the installed desktop icons, it opens a small window which says "Please register your copy of PaintShop Pro X7 today". There are a couple of form boxes for Email address and country, and a Register button, nothing else. If I fill in the form and click Register, the window turns white and nothing else happens, but I do receive a confirmation-of-registration email (I have three so far).
Whether I register or not, I can only close the window by clicking the [X] at top right. I get a message "Are you sure you want to cancel?". I click "Yes", and another window opens which says "Welcome to your PaintShop Pro trial!". On this window there are various options to "Buy Now", an "Already Purchased?" button and a "Close" button. Nothing else. If I click on Close, the window closes and nothing else happens.
The trial activation video tells me to click on Already Purchased, which takes me to the serial number screen that I have already described. My options here are to enter a serial number, go "Back" (to the registration screen) or "Cancel".
At no point does the trial software open (which the video says should happen first), and I am not given any option to start the trial.

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
As an update to my recent reply, after some hunting around my Corel account pages I found a "Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X7" Serial Number on the Your Trial Products tab. I assume that this is the same product, but when I enter the number in the Serial Number box for the trial and click on Connect, it tells me "Error: Invalid Serial Number". The window then freezes up and I have to open Task Manager to close it.

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
I heard of the trial being ready some time back and found that it would not allow running or was it installing without a serial number. That was back in August as a pre sale special.
This was eventually solved and I was able to get a good copy downloaded.
Perhaps download if you can from another source page. What size was the trial download for you? (275 165 ?)

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Mine is 272 MB. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try downloading from somewhere else.
Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Oh well, it was worth a try. I uninstalled, downloaded another copy from a different site and installed that. This file is slightly smaller (271 MB), but it gives me the same "Buy Now" and "Serial Number" screens that I can't get past.

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Just another thought. Do you have access to another computer or two that you can try and install X7 on. If the same result occurs on all other computers with that download then it will show a problem with the Corel trial program.
I just downloaded the trial from the Corel site in USA. Size was 279 004. I used the USA site as I assumed you were using that. (Your profile does not show any location so I could not be mor direct)
It installed correctly on a spare laptop computer running Win 7 Home Premium. It required me to register with Corel which I did.
Runs with no problems. On close I get the screen asking for Buy now or Already purchased. Up in the top right it shows as 30 days left in trial.
What does your screen show??
It would seem that somehow if yours is showing 0 days left that something has finished off your days on your trial. Is this a first install f the trial?
If it says 30 days and it does the same on other computers and does this with other downloads then you might make a comment on the Corel Facebook page and see if that helps.
Do you have earlier versions of PSP?

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Thanks hartpaul.
Following on from your suggestion, I tried installing the trial on a laptop, and it was successful. The difference was that, after registering, I was taken to a second screen with a Continue button. This button then enabled me to continue to the actual program. On my desktop PC, I get to this second screen, but apart from the Corel logo at the top it is blank white. There is no Continue button, so I have to cancel out of that window, and then I get the Welcome/Buy Now screen. The Welcome screen still shows 30 days left, but there is no way to get from there to the actual trial program.
I can only assume that something on my PC is preventing the Continue button from appearing, but I have no idea what. At least I can now try out the software, even if not on my computer of choice. I can only hope that, if I do decide to buy, it will actually install on my desktop PC where I want it!
I do have an earlier version of PaintShop Pro installed, but it is from back in the Jasc days, so I don't think that would interfere with a Corel installation.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Ahh seems to be some trouble in bringing up dialod boxes on your computer. I did read somewhere where ther was mention of javascript and updates . I feel sure it was one of Simone of corel UK 's responses. You might do a search of her posts and see if anything eventuates. At least the successful operation on the laptop shows that the program download works OK.
Bit like a detective story this tracing of problems.

Re: Unable to activate PaintshopPro X7 trial
Thank you again. I have read through Simone's threads in answer to other people's problems installing PSPX7. I followed her advice to create a new user account with full admin privileges and install there, but it doesn't make any difference. I still get the blank screen with no Continue button. My PC passes Simone's suggested tests for Java allowed and JavaScript active on all accounts.
Unfortunately the successful installation on my laptop isn't as much help as I had hoped, as I work in a dual-screen environment and I don't have a spare screen to connect to the laptop. I will continue to try out the tools and controls on the single screen, and when the trial period ends I will decide whether I want to risk a full purchase.
