Hello
I have changed hardware and tried to install VideoStudio X4 on it. Unfortunately it shows an error message during installation as on the image.
After installation has completed VideoStudio doesn't start, crashes.
Error code show that it's a software validation error but I have entred my personal license number.
What's going on?
Please, help.

Thx for answer.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?

Re: Reinstallation of VideoStudio X4
If you do a Google search for "PkgMgr.exe has been deprecated", you will see it is a very common problem, particularly since Windows 8/8.1 has appeared. There are also a number of suggested fixes but not many of us here are really qualified to comment on what might help you in your specific circumstances... unless skier hughes, who is associated with the Microsoft tech side of things, has some thoughts...

Yes, I found many matches for problems with this DISM.
But what's ridiculous - previously my VideoStudio was installed onto Windows 8 and there were no problems even during installation or later. As I understand DISM was part of the system since version 8, 8.1 should have the same module. But now it causes problems...

Re: Reinstallation of VideoStudio X4
I'm sorry but I have no explanation. I have installed recent versions of VS on two computers running Win 8.1, and both function perfectly well. Haven't tried installing VS X4, though, but can't imagine that that is the root problem, given that the same problem occurs for a wide variety of people using different devices and programs.

Re: Reinstallation of VideoStudio X4
Information from my fellow Microsoft MVP's.
Win 8.1 formally deprecates pkgmgr, whereas Win8 didn't.
This is why you cannot install X4 on the latest version of Windows.
Your options are,
Update to X7
revert back to win 8
revert back to win 8, install x4 and then update to 8.1 and see if it will work afterwards...... we aren't too sure if this will work or not, but would be interested to know if it works out ok.

Re: Reinstallation of VideoStudio X4
OK, thanks for your help.
Looks I have to use my old Windows instead of new one.
By the way I wonder why Microsoft didn't fix this problem yet, looking at the microsoft.com site there are many software incompatible with 8.1 which were compatible with 8....

Re: Reinstallation of VideoStudio X4
It's not something for Microsoft to fix, it is the latest way of working, and programme manufacturers have had several years to change the way they make programmes, which they have done. This is why later versions of VS work with 8.1. I suppose they chose 8.1 to be the cut off point for this older way of working!
It's called progress, which is great if you can afford to update your programmes, but if you are like me and have a programme or two that you really love and either cost a fortune or is no longer updated you have to keep a second OS installed. I dual boot with XP as my multi-disc printer, which costs £800 and isn't going to be replaced on a whim, only works with XP!!
I feel your pain, but there is nothing we can do!!
