Libraries X5 to X7

Post by babyleon »

This very well might have already been covered so forgive me if this is old news. I make very extensive use of libraries in VS and have since I started using VS ten years ago. One of my ongoing video projects, a DVD of Birds in Belize, uses libraries that refer to clips on about seven different drives spanning those ten years. I did not think I would be able to transfer all my libraries. But exporting libraries from X5 and importing them to X7 was smooth and flawless! I was amazed how well it worked!

Hi babyleon

Thanks for that info.

In the past with earlier versions of Video Studio it has not been possible to use the Library Manager to export to another version. Corel updating the libraries structure may have caused that.
We did have work-rounds by creating VSP’s or moving files.

Now we have another problem in using 64 bit versions, the sample clips provided by the program either don’t exist or are in a different location to those used by X5

Check the Graphics library 5th icon down, the clips there should be in the Samples Decoration/Flash folders, maybe a re-link to X5 or move the offending clips to X7 samples folder.

I am not sure if there are any more anomalies with these libraries.

You are correct. When I went into the Graphics library, there were some broken links. All the "Color" library was there but there was only one Object, one Frame and two Flash items, all four with broken links. I re-linked them to the X5 folder but I don't know if there should be other items that were perhaps over-written when I imported my X5 libraries. Should there be more? (I don't think I have ever used these library items other than the Color ones.)

Hi
If you only have a few clips then I would suspect Video Studio X5 has the same, I would think that program is not installed correctly, or an additional contents file needs installing.

This is what I see from the Graphics section for X5 and X7

X5
1 / Colour 15
2 / Objects 39
3 / Frame 43

X7 original program
Colour 15
Colour Patterns 25
Background 14
Frame 25
Objects 50
Flash 40

As you see there is much more content using X7

X7 using X5 imported libraries.
Colour 15
Objects 39 links lost
Frame 43 link2 lost
Flash 69 links lost

All clips should be here, I think

C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5\Samples
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7\Samples

One more anomaly, when you click to re-link the panel shows the last know location of that file, does help in locating it, however this may well be messed up, don’t be surprised if it targets another Video Studio version , I see X4?

Finally I don’t know what other library clips have been affected in importing X5 libraries.

Some time ago I did ask Corel to change the import function to affect only the media pages.
Still waiting for a reply on that one?
