Step setting for tools

Post by fotojrb »

Several of the tools have Step as one of their options. I've been using PSP for many years, but I've honestly never understood what the Step option does, and it doesn't seem to be documented. Can someone explain? Thanks.

Try this:
1. File > New and make a 500 x 500 pixel document. Can be transparent or white.
2. Make sure you have a non white color selected as your top stroke color in the materials palette.
3. Select the paintbrush tool and set a circle shape, Size 50, Hardness 100, Opacity 100, Step 10.
4. Place the brush near the top and touching the left margin and click once. Hold your shift key down and Click so that the brush edge touches the right margin. You should finish with a smooth line.
5. Change the Step to 50 and repeat 4 but underneath the other line.
5. Change the Step to 100 and repeat
6. Change the Step to 200 and repeat.
From this experiment you should come to an understanding of what step does.
