Hi all,
I've been using Paintshop Pro X5 with service pack 3 installed for ages now for playing about with images I use on the web. I've recently got a Nikon D3300 and went to view some pictures I'd taken saved as RAW files (.NEF)
When the images initially display in the organizer they seem correct then one by one they turn and have a red tint to them.
I've had a quick look on the net and searched the forum but can only find a few similar issues but no real fix.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Many Thanks

Re: Red RAW files
The real fix is to use something else other than PSP to process raw files. Corel has just released Aftershot 2, a lesser version of Corel Aftershot Pro 2, but there's also plenty of other editors out there.
Regards, Dan

Re: Red RAW files
Raw image formats are pretty much unique to each camera and just because your editor can properly understand one raw format from Nikon does not mean it can understand another raw format, even from Nikon. I suspect that your version of PSP X5 is just too old to properly understand the Nikon D3300 raw images. You have several choices but the first thing I would do is download the (free) Adobe dng converter and use it to convert the NEF files into dng format. That is a standard kind of raw image and I assume that X5 probably understands it (I know that X7 does but I don't have X5). If you can load the dng format files into X5 and if it properly understands them, you have one solution to your problem.gerdburger wrote:Hi all,

A second choice would be to download the current version of X7 and use it, as a trial, for testing purposes. A third choice would be to look for another editor to replace X5 and, as another poster mentioned, you could try ASP (which lacks much of the functionality of PSP). Or you could look at other editors (like Gimp) or start shooting in jpg (since all editors will understand that format).
Don't know if any of this helps but I just assume your version of PSP is just too old for your camera. That is why companies like Corel (and Adobe and PhaseOne and ...) can get their customers to upgrade. I know that the red/pink tint is what I see when I try to load an image into an editor that does not understand my camera's raw format.

Re: Red RAW files
No hesitation. Download and use Nikons own NX-D. It will convert your NEFs for you just as the camera saw them. Once you have gotten the hang of editing NEF's then look at alternative converters.
I've been a long time user of Bibble/ASP but have found NX-D does an excellent job.

Many thanks to all who posted with advice.
I'll be using ViewNX 2 which came with the camera and can convert my images before looking at options for our editors.

Re: Red RAW files
I have the same issue with my Nikon D5300, I have reported it to Corel. Telling them that it was fixed in X6 3rd patch. They are now aware have reported back to me that it will be fixed in the first patch for X7.

I would think that you would find the results from NX-D better than from View NX2. It's a generation ahead of View. It's free so why not give it a go.
I still like ASP. It's just that somethings are broken and the work arounds are a waste of valuable time.
