AC3 problem

Post by iradel »

DVD MovieFactory 4 seems to have a problem converting files (divx in particular) that have AC3 sound. Right at the end of the conversion step, it just fails.

Is AC3 officially supported?

The table at

http://www.ulead.com/dmf/compare.htm

certainly makes the claim that AC3 is supported.

Im not sure about AC3 ni Divx but AC3 in MPEG2 works just fine.

this problem probably has got something to do with codecs, AC3 in particular. i mean, not all ac3 codecs are licenced right? correct me if im wrong.....

Nomatter what I did, I could not get the conversion step in MovieFactory to succeed on a divx (avi) file with AC3 sound. As a test, I re-encoded that file again except with mp3 sound. At that point, the conversion step in MovieFactory went just fine and the file burned successfully to DVD.

What do you mean by "licensed AC3" ? The file with AC3 sound had to be encoded/ripped by some certain application for it to work in MovieFactory?

There are some AC3 encoders that produce AC3 files that are not fully compliant. Those AC3 files have been known to cause problems with encoders...

How was your source file encoded? Using which AC3 encoder?

I do not know how the file was encoded. However, it plays perfectly on a dvd player that supports DivX files. Doesn't that mean that the file is within some reasonable parameters? And as such, shouldn't a modern software also support it out of the box?

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution?

No, I have not found a solution. I have been trying to convert the file to one with mp3 (instead of ac3) with virtualdub, but the audio and video end up out of sync no matter what I do. If MovieFactory worked right, I wouldn't have wasted a week of work.

Maybe not. Your file is probably 5 channel of sound.

Could you post the Name of the video your trying to convert?
Could you post how you created the video? What program/download?

The above post that compares the 2 products says AC-3 Dolby® Digital (AC-3) Stereo audio encoding
Stereo is 2 channel. Mpeg audio is 1 or 2 channel.

Right-Click on the file when it's on the timeline and select "Properties"
then post that information back to this thread.

Try Nero Ultra 6.6. I have convert the avi file for which MF4 is having trouble. Better, it's much faster than MF4, 2-3 hrs vs. 10-12 hrs. Make sure to get the full version and all the plu-in's.
