Pixilating Text When Saved As JPG

Post by AlanG »

I have been having a problem as of late with regard to adding text to any JPG graphic. I am currently using PSP-X6 but I also have PSP-X5 installed and they both produce the same results. I have attached a graphic I hope will reflect the issue I am having. When adding text to a JPG it looks just fine during the editing process. It is after I have saved the file that the added text seems to have been degraded noticeably. The attached graphic was initially saved as a JPG and then I went back and added additional text (same style and size) and saved the file as a PNG.

Any thoughts.... :(

Save by pressing F12 and in Save Dialog set Jpeg quality to 95-97. :D

Unless I'm missing something, a compression of 95 - 97 will make it worse.

A Radim...

I did as you suggested but keeping the compression at the lowest or lower settings was best as noted by Kathy's comment. However, I did go to the "Options" dialogue available through "Save as" and changed the "Chroma Subsampling" from YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 which is where it was set (assumed that was a low setting)to the max setting of YCbCr 4x4 2x2 2x2 and the text appeared fine in the saved file. I admittedly don't have a clue as to exactly what that function is but changing it as noted seemed to resolve the issue! :?

To add a little crispness to the text, use Sharpen once. Use Save As, set the compression to 2 and the text should save fine.
