Re: pspx6 workspace
Seems like you must have done a lot of playing around with your settings as it is a default value. You need to allow each palette to dock and then dock it . Then you have the four options at the top right of the respective palettes.
File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Palettes and in the central area make sure that under Allow Docking of- (I have them all ticked.)
Then you grab the respective Palette by its title bar and drag it so that you see some ghostly white arrows showing where you can dock it
As you drag the Materials palette around you will see a white diamond with a small arrow pointing to the right. That means that you can only dock the Materials palette on the right.
Drag the Materials Palette down so that the cursor on the palette title bar is aligned with the ghost right arrow and release. It will then auto dock for you.
To get it arranged as I have done drag your 4 palettes Learning Centre, History, Materials and Layers out to the centre of your workspace.
Then start with your Learning Centre - drag, allign release and when it is docked click the push pin to make it auto hide.
Then do the History palette in the same way and you should then have the Learning Center tucked away at the right with the History palette below it as shown on my workspace.
Repeat with the Materials palette, but do not auto hide.
Lastly drag the Layers Palette and although it will seem the same at first when you drag it over the Materials palette you will get the white diamond with two black arrow choices one up and the other down. Allign your cursor arrow with the down pointing arrow and release and the Layer Palette will tuck in below the Materials Palette and push it up a little.
Allign your cursor over the dividing line between the Layers and Material Palettes and drag up to a point where you can still see all the parts of the Materials palette (experiment here to see how high you can drag it.
When satisfied, save that workspace and when you open (Default set to Edit) you will get that every time.

Re: pspx6 workspace
Paul, how did you get that light gray 120,120,120 background in X6? In my version of X6 (unpatched), my background color is 47,47,47 whether I use the light workspace or the dark workspace. Is your screenshot showing the X7 background perhaps?hartpaul wrote:In X6 without Service packs (16.0.0.113) View > Workspace Color gives you only two choices Light Grey and Dark Grey . In both my cases they are neutral 208, 208, 208, and 47,47,47 respecively.
What I am calling the image background becomes visible if you have tabbed dicuments ticked and it then occupies all of the workspace, or you can see part of it (with Untabbed Documents) when you drag a corner of the image window aside. In both my cases that is 120,120,120 and in my version of X6 cannot be changed.
In X7 that is called background color and using View > Background Color that can be chabged to Black, Dark Grey, Medium Grey, Light Grey and white.

LindaSue - for whatever strange reason you need to have an image loaded to change the background color. I think I remember you saying you use the non-tabbed method so I switched mine that way so I could take a screen shot. Once the image is loaded drag on the side to expose the background and then right-click and select your background color. If you right-click outside the image window it won't work.
Does this help or did I totally misunderstand what you were looking for?

Thanks, Kathy. I'd forgotten that you access the color choices by right-clicking in X6 instead of via the View menu.Kathy_9 wrote:LindaSue - for whatever strange reason you need to have an image loaded to change the background color. Re: pspx6 workspace
PSP sp1&2 will remember last viewed as to light/dark gray which is far from 208,208,208 but wont remember where or how the palettes were docked or rolled. Hmmmm. I even went all the way back to win operating system/display props/appearance/windows&buttons/color scheme. Workspace nutral light gray wasnt hiding under that rock.
I was taught the first thing you do upon import was fix errors at the levels level then fix at the curves level where you can color correct by hitting black points (e.g. 008,008,008) and white crossing points (eg 252,252,252) After that it becomes artistic interpretatio. Q1 is there a way to palettize the curves dialogue? Q2 Within the curves is there a way to set black and white points by number instead of percentage. Even setting midpoints by number e.g. you know the shirt was red 288.138, 105?
