I really want to like this product (Video Studio 9--Upgrade from version 8, because of the improved features. I have a very good grasp of how Studio 8 works, but I'm having a devil of a time with Studio 9. Current problem: I upload a video project and add scenes in the Story Board View. When I switch over to the Timeline View, everything works just fine during the initial editing session. When I'm done with the session, I save my project and even copy a redundant shortcut to my desktop to speed up the reloading process for the next time I want to work on my project. The reloading process seems to work just fine. Yet ONLY AFTER reloading the project I am unable to drag and drop any of the supplied Effects anywhere into the Timeline. It just won't accept any effects.
This happens no matter what project I happen to be working on. I also note that working projects I've saved from Studio 8 will not load into Studio 9. That's REALLY unfortunate. All registered versions should be backward compatible.
In Studio 8, there are clear delineations between scenes which makes it very easy to drag and drop (anything) into the Timeline. But I am not seeing these delineations in Studio 9.
Any advise or follow up questions appreciated.

My VS9 permits adding Video Filters to clips on the timeline. My clips are all mpeg2 but nobody has mentioned problems adding Filters to AVI clips.
What are your video clip properties?
I have also been able to open projects that were created in VS8 with no problem. However, I have had problems creating a clean video file from these projects in VS9 unless I turn off Smart Render in Create Video.
Maybe your install is faulty. Do you have the CD or did you download?

Version 9 is certainly back compatible in that I have been able to open both version 7 and 8 projects in V9. I have no problem at all adding any filters or effects to .avi or .mpg clips - don't quite understand the problem about delineations between clips - everything in my V9 looks very similar to V8 - you must have a faulty installation.
