Not strictly a VS question, but thought I would ask here as VS is my main editing program
I want to send some video files to friends in the USA.
Just to give you a bit of background, I film basketball games for a club I work with here in the UK,I normally edit the video and put it on to DVD which being in the UK is of course PAL format.
I have been asked to send some games over to the USA for people over there.
As far as file size goes it's not an issue,I can get good enough quality under 2Gb, which I can send using a file transfer program (in my case WeTransfer which has a 2Gb max)
The files will be played on computers mainly.
What is the best format to send the files over to the USA?
If I create a MPG file here in the UK will there be any problems playing it on computers in the USA without any conversion?
Would a DVD ISO file created here (PAL) be able to be burnt to DVD in the USA and be playable there?
Hope what I have written makes sense, thanks in advance RG

Re: Best format for video file/DVD to USA from UK?
Hi
Yep that makes sense
There should be no problems in playing a Pal video on a US computer
If you are intending to play on a computer then Mpeg4 may be the best option.
Share—Upload to Web would use a suitable template, when render completes simply close the upload window.
A thumbnail will be placed in the library, right click and “Locate on Computer”
Play to view quality and size?
Why not simply upload to Vimeo or YouTube?
A DVD Iso could be burnt to disc in the US, but not all DVD players in the US support Pal so you may have to convert to NTSC, you wont know that till they try to play a Pal version?
Video Studio X6 can convert a pal and burn a ntsc disc/iso
Some files may play via a USB memory stick plugged into a TV or DVD player, again the players vary, Mpeg2 is probably the best option? also many players support DivX, may be another option?
I would create a short Mpeg4, send it to the US for them to try, at least upload times will be quick.

Re: Best format for video file/DVD to USA from UK?
Thanks for the quick reply
As far as YouTube goes I had thought about that as an option, the people who I want to send the file to are not very computer savvy, issue being, I thought that YouTube doesn't allow downloads and they would have to use a 3rd party downloader?
Thanks RG
I thought Vimeo had a limit of 500mb unless I went for Pro/Plus, for the no of times I need to do it (not very often) I don't want to pay a subscriptionWhy not simply upload to Vimeo or YouTube?

Hi
When I mentioned You Tube I expected then to view on line not download from You Tube.
I had not considered the file size limit.
By the way the easiest way to download a video from the internet is to install the Torch Browser, that has a button to download videos without installing other software. Till you find something better that is.. Do a search for Torch and read all about it.
Sharing files……….
There are quite a few sharing sites, many I know are full of malware so should be avoided.
DropBox seems to have been used on the forum.
Windows/ Microsoft has www.live.com which includes a sharing site called “onedrive”
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/oned ... =windows-8

Re: Best format for video file/DVD to USA from UK?
Ultimately, if your US friends are not computer-savvy, you could make your mp4 videos as suggested by Trevor, then simply put them as files on a DVD disc and send those to your friends. They can then put the disc in their computer and simply use a software video player -- like the freeware VLC player, which will play virtually any format -- to watch the video. Note that I say simply transfer the mp4 to disc using Windows/My Computer, and not Video Studio. Use Video Studio to make the mp4's but treat them after that as you would any other file being stored on a disc (or even USB thumb drive...)

Re: Best format for video file/DVD to USA from UK?
I'd make mp4 files and save them to onedrive.
I'd then make a tutorial using screen capture, showing how to access the onedrive files, this should be very short and small. You could email this to one person who can share it with the others or even show them all how to download a file from onedrive.
