Unable To Add Effects To Timeline

Post by jaeger52 »

I really want to like this product (Video Studio 9--Upgrade from version 8) because of the improved features. I have a very good grasp of how Studio 8 works, but I'm having a devil of a time with Studio 9. Current problem: I upload a video project and add scenes in the Story Board View. When I switch over to the Timeline View, everything works just fine during the initial editing session. When I'm done with the session, I save my project and even copy a redundant shortcut to my desktop to speed up the reloading process for the next time I want to work on my project. The reloading process seems to work just fine. Yet ONLY AFTER reloading the project I am unable to drag and drop any of the supplied Effects anywhere into the Timeline. It just won't accept any effects.

This happens no matter what project I happen to be working on. I also note that working projects I've saved from Studio 8 will not load into Studio 9. That's REALLY unfortunate. All registered versions should be backward compatible.

In Studio 8, there are clear delineations between scenes which makes it very easy to drag and drop (anything) into the Timeline. But I am not seeing these delineations in Studio 9.

Any advise or follow up questions appreciated.

VideoStudio 9 is actually designed to be backward compatible with projects made by lower versions like VS8.

Regarding the effects, if you purchased the download version (ESD), then usually only the (bare) program is included with the main download. Other components are downloadable separately to streamline the download process and give users more flexibility with choosing the stuff they need. I'm not sure if the effects should already be outlined in the library even before you download and install it (I'd apreciate anyone who can clarify this matter). But I'd remind you anyway, just to be safe, to make sure you install the additional components first using the "Smart Download" feature.

Then for you to be able to see the "delineations" on where you can add the transitions or effects, you must be in "Storyboard View". It should be the film-like tab icon at the lower left portion of the workspace. You will not see this if you are in the "Timeline View" or the one with the tab icon of an inverted "E".

Anyway, regarding your problem with the older project files, I'd advice you to contact Ulead Tech Support. Go to http://www.ulead.com/tech/techsupport.htm and submit a "Techincal Support Form". Ulead hasn't released an official patch or update yet for the discovered bugs or problems with version 9 so the Tech Support people should know if there is a specific fix for it, or if it's not a bug... just a problem caused by bad installation, or if you should just wait for the patch to come...

Isn't this just a duplicate of this thread :-

It is not good practice to start duplicate threads

I made a mistake with my post yesterday. You can actually add transitions and filters using the Timeline View. It's just more visible and easier to distinguish where to add them in the Storyboard View.
