Fatal Error Installation of PSP X7 free trial (repeatedly)

Post by okonemoretime »

new HP computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I've downloaded the trial for PSP X7 three times from various pages on the Corel website and once from download.com. Right-clicking and choosing Run As Administrator, the installation wizard runs (the files unpack), but the actual installation process (gray/black window) quits about 5 seconds in. Fatal Error During Installation. Invites me to try again later.

What should I do?

Thanks.

P.S. I have a copy of PSP9 (Jasc) on my computer; it runs fine with Win7, but opening it causes Windows to change the color scheme to Windows 7 Basic (disables "transparent" window borders). I'm very anxious to try PSP X7.

What happens if you *don't* select Run As Administrator. (While I can't see why that should not work, I personally have never installed any version of PSP -- including X7 -- using Run As Administrator...)

If the download unpacks, there should be, in your C:\Program Files (x86) a Corel folder, and in that a Corel Paintshop Pro X7\Setup folder. You could try running the setup routine from the Setup.exe file in that folder.

Alternately, you could try deleting that folder since its first installation may have been corrupt and not overwritten by your subsequent attempts to install.

Actually, I should have mentioned I simply double-clicked the exe files the first couple times I downloaded them, but the same error occurred.

Ok, will try both these things and let you know.

Thanks.

Hmm. No Corel folder in C:\Program Files (x86). Apparently, the installer didn't even get that far.

Not seeing my replies posted for a couple hours (new to this forum; don't know how quick the moderator is to approve posts), so here they are again:

I did use simple double-click on the exe files the first few attempts -- same results as when using run as administrator.

I don't have a Corel folder anywhere on C drive. The installer never gets to that point.

Running a search for any files/folders created today and named Corel, I find only some Chrome User Data files.

Thanks.

Herein may lie a clue.
I have installed all versions of PSP that I have ( 8, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7) without a problem and multiple times on a desktop and laptops under XP and Win 7.
I remember reading somewhere where tone of the personal themes caused problems with the installation. Can you set your Win 7 to a classic version no frills no extras, basic setup and try installing with that.
Also what firewall and anti virus are you using as possible that may also cause a problem?
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

I changed the desktop theme to Windows 7 Basic and again clicked to install the trial of PSP X7, but the installation still resulted in a Fatal Error.

Thanks though.

Was this issue ever resolved? If so, how?

I am having the same issue with PSP X7 that I have bought and have a license for. On my main PC it gives a fatal error at the very beginning of setup, and I can't figure out what is going on with it. I have been able to successfully setup the program on another secondary PC, which I use just to log into work. Both systems are 64 bit Win7 Ultimate. But my main PC has quite a few other programs installed, where the secondary PC is pretty much just the Win7 OS, and Cisco AnyConnect in order for me to log into my PC at work via a secure VPN tunnel.

My assumption at this point is that one or more programs that I have installed on my main PC, or one or more DLLs that are needed for the installation, is causing an issue. I have tried to do the install in safe mode on my main PC, and that didn't work either (missing necessary files to do a Windows installation in safe mode).

Anybody have any ideas? I'd like to be able to uninstall the program on the secondary PC and get it properly installed on my main PC if at all possible.

Thanks,
Robert

Have you tried creating a new Profile in Windows, then logging on using that Profile and trying to install PSP? If that works, and you can successfully open PSP, you can then delete the new Profile and PSP (normally) remains accessible...

Ken: Thank you very much for your suggestion! That worked perfectly and I was able to get PSP pro X7 successfully installed and registered on my main PC.

Thanks again,
Robert
