I have PSP 8 but I'm guessing the answer might apply across all.
Is it possible to start a specific script by clicking an icon placed on a tool bar or menu please?
For frequently used scripts this would avoid choosing from the lengthy drop-down list and two extra clicks.

Re: Can I start a script from an icon?
I really can't remember if it's possible in version 8, but if it is:
What you're looking to do is bind a script: make a Bound Script.
Open the customize dialog. There should be a tab "scripts".
Select a script in the drop down box.
Select an icon (a custom icon not possible in X4, I read it was in X6 or coming in X7 maybe).
Click on the Bind button.
The script plus icon appears in the Bound Scripts box below.
Drag the icon to wherever you want it.

Re: Can I start a script from an icon?
The binding of scripts is not an option in PSP8 as far as i know. It only started with PSP9.

Re: Can I start a script from an icon?
It is possible to bind scripts in PSP8. I've done it. There just aren't as many options as in later versions of PSP.

Re: Can I start a script from an icon?
From the PSP8 Help file:
About BoundScripts (PSP8)
Paint Shop Pro allows you to create up to nine special scripts called BoundScripts. Because these scripts are essentially commands, you can drag them into a toolbar, a menu, or assign them a keyboard shortcut.
Creating a BoundScript
A BoundScript is created just like any other type of script. However, you must name it “BoundScriptn”, where n is a number ranging from 1 to 9. Before creating a BoundScript, you may want to delete the specific Jasc-supplied sample BoundScript of the same name as this will ensure you’ll be using your new script.
Adding a BoundScript to a Toolbar
Add a BoundScript to a toolbar or menu just like you would any other command button. Refer to Customizing Paint Shop Pro for more information on user interface customization. Shown below is a section of the Customize dialog’s Commands tab. When you select BoundScripts in the Categories list, the buttons for the nine BoundScripts appear in the Commands list. Simply drag the desired button into a toolbar or menu.

Oh cool. I didn't know of that method as i was looking for the usual script tab in the Customize window for binding them!

Re: Can I start a script from an icon?
They added that option in PSP9, Cassel. Scripts were new with PSP8 so binding them was a rather manual operation. Plus, you have to just remember what they are as you can only see the numbers on them. For example, if I hover my cursor over the bound script on my toolbar, the pop-up box just says "Bound Script 2". The icons all look the same too so you just have to remember what you've placed on your toolbar and which bound scripts apply to which scripts. It's not a problem for me because I only need one in that version of PSP and that's LeviFiction's "Paste as New Layer and select the Move Tool" script. I have other bound scripts in later versions that aren't needed in PSP8. They're workspace type scripts that turn things on and off such as the Organizer.

Thanks all, especially LindaSue for that good news about BoundScripts.
I'll have a crack at it asap.
