sound of silence
I am in the process of editing my holiday video and struck a little bug. I have inserted some transitions and in one clip immediately following the transition the sound has disappeared. Funny thing is that if I click on this clip a few seconds further down from the transition I get the sound back except in the first couple of second behind the transition. When I remove the transition the sound is back. I have used this transition a few times with other clips and there is no problem. This is weird. Any suggestions?

Re: sound of silence
What are the Properties of the clip in question? (Right click the clip in the timeline for the Properties.) And have you done a quick render to the final format to see whether the audio is still there or not?

Hello Ken,
Clip properties as per attached.
I copied the 2 adjoining clips into a new project, inserted the transition and rendered them to a DVD file. There was no audio on the second clip of the rendered file. Removed the transition in the new (very small) project and audio re-appeared. I am mystified.

Re: sound of silence
How long in time is each clip and how long in time is the transition between the clips?

Re: sound of silence
Clip A is 33 sec, Clip B is 22 sec, transition = 2 sec. Using the same transition elsewhere (i.e. earlier in the project. I haven't gone any further yet) works fine.
Removing Clip B and inserting the same clip from the working folder has no effect.
When I replace Clip B with Clip C (picked from the library at random) the audio is OK. I can also overcome the problem by copying Clip B onto the music track.
Breaking News: I just trimmed about 2 secs from the front of Clip B and Hey Presto!! I have audio. So the problem is in Clip B but this is a clip that came straight and virginally from my video camera and has the same properties as all the others. Still weird.

Re: sound of silence
It may have the same properties but that does not mean that the file is not corrupted. There are all sorts of other properties that are not displayed by the Corel properties option.

Re: sound of silence
I'd go with Canuck's suggestion of a corrupted file. Most likely place for corruption is always at beginning and end of a file when recording stops and starts.

Thank you all for your inputs. I guess this is the end of this topic. Is there an "end of topic" button or do we just stop writing?

Re: sound of silence
I know you have used this transition several times successfully. But which transition is it exactly? Did it come with Video Studio or is it from another company e.g. NewBlue or proDAD?
Is it absolutely essential that you use that specific transition? If not, do other transitions cause the same problem? I would have to conclude that the problem relates to that transition since your video is otherwise standard AVCHD.

Re: sound of silence
The transition is "crossfade" but other transitions have the same effect. They are all VideoStudio transitions.

Re: sound of silence
Is it possible for you to create a SmartPackage of your short problem project and upload it to a cloud drive such a OneDrive from which we could download it and see if we get the same behaviour?

Re: sound of silence
I have created a SmartPackage but I don't use cloud and don't know anything about it. Can you explain how to set this up?
