"Recent Places" missing

A friend of mine asked me this question:

I use PSP X4 and recently my computer had to go away to be fixed. When it came back some of my settings had been altered. One thing I use hundreds of times a day is saving to or opening a folder in my Recent Places. However, although Recent Places is still there, it is not automatically updating throughout the day so in effect it's useless. Does anyone know how to enable or activate it again, please?

I had never noticed the "Recent Places" so i have no idea how to get it back. Anyone else could help?

I suspect the friend means Recent Files list.
File > Recent Files

This is set by File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Miscellaneous
The top entry controls the number of recent files remembered with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 10.
Need to restart the program to have effect.

Or if she is referring to Recent Places in Windows Explorer she can:

1. Right click on the start button
2. Open 'Properties'
3. Check both boxes as shown below:

Thanks, but this is not what she is referring to. I checked and it is really Recent PLACES.

I don't know what operating system she's using but to set those folders on Windows XP, you have to use a Microsoft utility called TweakUI. Here's a screenshot of the XP version:

Once you set them in TweakUI, you see the same folders in almost all programs.

That's what I gave instructions for. Didn't it work?

It is part of Windows Explorer and it appears in the Save As dialog box for PSP and other software.

Now if the icon itself isn't showing have her go to Windows Explorer and right-click on the Favorites star and select "Restore Favorite Links".
