Hmmm...sounds vaguely familiar. Jasc perhaps?
That's before my time with PSP, but from the comments I've seen here, folks look back with fondness at the JASC era, so it was probably true back then....

To add insult to injury, the UK price is 30% more than the US dollar price.

Value for money is insulting.
and let's not forget that it won't support plugins that previous versions did and if you question this with Corel it's apparently the plugin maker's fault.

A question to those who decide not to upgrade - what price would be low enough?

To me, as a satisfied PSP X5 user who doesn't find truly compelling enhancements in X6/X7, it's somewhere around $30. The only reason I'm even looking into an upgrade is that I want to retain my upgrade's price right, because when X8 is released I probably won't be entitled to get it as an X5 user (I think it only goes back two versions).

If there are only 10% of new features, then there is an argument that the upgrade should be 10% of the full price, unless there is a major new feature. Digital downloads have no packaging costs. But I could probably go up to 30% of the full price, if the software is bundled with a must-have piece of software, but there has never been something which I have used.

I agree that is an argument but a pretty weak one.

It may be a weak argument, but it's the one which stops most people from upgrading: the price.

I've had every version of PSP since 7. But I simply don't see the value in upgrading from x6 to x7. Yes it's a case of not enough new feature to justify the price but also the track record of something going wrong with the install.
Sorry but I've read toooo many upgrade problems to take the risk for such a small upgrade in features.

My guess is that most people have upgraded already. IMHO most of the people on this thread are a self-selected group of users who are not going to upgrade for their own reasons, perhaps price (as that is the OPs point.)

50% seems to be a fair upgrade price to me.
When you look at the upgrade price for the CorelDraw package, it's usually around 40% of the full version.

I'm still running X4 (and X7 trial) and see on the Corel website that No Upgrade is available from X4, only from X5 or X6.

Suggest that you contact Corel and request getting on the Promo newsletter distribution. My account was dormant, and all it took was for them to reactivate it. Soon you will get special Upgrade offers (codes) and the prices are attractive. For instance.. the upgrade from X3 to X4 only cost me ~32 beans. :)

Corel are running a "Black Friday" special until Nov 19, 2014. PS upgrade cost of Pro £27 ($37), Ultimate £37 ($49), which is even cheaper if you select to pay in dollars. This is under 50%, which is much better than original 25% discounts
