Hello,
I am finding the behavior of the background eraser very strange. I have a portrait and want to change the background. The current background is off white, very simple. I set the background eraser to erase the white background by choosing the foreground swatch and selecting that color (the white background) in the foreground swatch. I set the tolerance to low and the sampling to discontiguous. But when I erase, everything gets erased, even colors that are not remotely close to the background. Either I am misunderstanding this tool, or there's a bug in Paintshop Pro X7.
Anyone have any insights about this?
Thanks!
Jerry

Re: Background Eraser
Hi Jerry,
I don't find anything wrong with the background eraser. I just select it and erase. It's not necessary to select any colour for this tool.
Why not try the Auto-Selection and draw around the image, invert the selection then delete the background. The image must be a raster image. Any stray pixels can easily be erased.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that.

Re: Background Eraser
One of the bugs I've found in this is with 16-bit images in discontiguous mode. It works fine with 8-bit images, but not with 16-bit.
Had hoped it would be fixed in X7, but no such luck.
