Paintshop Pro X6 - Text

Post by hooverdlh »

I continue to experience an annoying keyboard delay when I'm editing text in PSP X6. I thought it was my laptop, but I just upgraded to a more powerful desktop computer. Is there a setting I can change to stop the delay?

Your question is a little vague. What kind of editing are you doing to your text when this happens? I'm using X6 on WinXP and I don't see any kind of delay when typing text or changing the font, size or color whether it is vector or floating.

What is your:

- image resulution
- text size, amount of text + lines, formating style
- complexity of scene...

If possible make a screenshot; if too large put on imgur.com :P

- image resolution = 300 PPI
- text size, amount of text + lines, formatting style = MV Boli 8
24 lines of text
- complexity of scene... There are no pictures, this is text only for a wine label

Since it's all text, I am attaching a screen shot of the image information.

The text is on a vector layer. It's all in one text box. Do I need to break it up into multiple boxes?

I have attempted to duplicate your problem but with no success.
So what you have said there is that you have PSP X6 installed on a laptop and now also on a desktop computer and you are experiencing a keyboard delay in the typing of text in.
How much delay? if you type some letters , how long after you hit a key does the letter take to appear .
ON the principle of keeping it simple, can you try:
1. open the program (fresh start)
2. New document can use your 930 x 1230 document, but make it transparent.
3. Choose Arial as the font, size 30 in pixels , vector text , stroke =0, Allignment: left, create as :vector
4. Type in some words and see if there is any delay in the text .

I don't see anything in your settings that would account for the delay. Is it happening while you're typing the text or after you click "Apply Changes"? Have you tried a different font? Maybe the font you're using is the problem. I have a font on my system called "MV Boli" but it doesn't work in PSP. I just get little boxes when I select it. I Googled it and it's apparently an Arabic font. Perhaps that's the cause of the problem you're having.

I'm having a similar issue. Once I add text to an image and then click off the text tool, the next time I try and edit the text, I cannot select words. I can insert a cursor and add new letters or delete letters, but when I try and select an entire word or letter to change color, etc, it will not select.

I created a brand new document that was transparent. I found that when I first created the text and had not saved, there was not keyboard delay. Once I hit the Text complete any additional typing had a slight delay. As I continued to add more and more text, the delay became more pronounced. This happened whether I used MV Boli or Arial. This aligns with my experience because I typically have a lot of text on my documents. The delay (with considerable text) can be 3 - 5 seconds. It's very slight if you only have a sentence or two.

Any thoughts?

Lindasue, I found the font at http://fontzone.net/download/mv-boli

I did some more tests as shown:

All of my text is contained within one layer vs. your example where text is placed in multiple layers. I will try breaking the text up into multiple layers to see if that does it.

See there is more information that you did not disclose.
If I was doing a lot of text all at once I would do it in wordpad and then copy and paste it in. Perhaps that may be why I have not experienced any slow down. You have also not said how many lines of text / characters per line which would give us a better idea of what you are doing and the problems you are experiencing.

For some reason it didn't occur to me to split it up. Thank you - I'll do better next time with specifics. :-)

I tried a variety of font sizes from 12 point to 36, a number of lines in one layer for each and with and without the outline colour. MV Boli came with X6 and X7 and I like it for writing comments on screenshots. I have the impression that the larger the font the more of a delay occurs and the delay starts after about three lines of text. It may be the number of lines of text that affects the speed. But the delay for me was no more than a fraction of a second so was no big deal. Could it also be the speed of the machine?

I hope it's not that I need a more powerful PC.
PCInfo.JPG
It's not top of the line, but it should have enough for PaintShop. It also has a GeForce GTX 745 video card.

I believe I need to break up the text into individual text boxes. I had 24 lines of text within one text box on one layer (and yes, I should have said that up front). Just never occurred to me that what looks like a page of text would be a problem. It does so much with graphics, text just seemed to be simple.

What you need is a desktop publishing program. Sure PSP can do text but it's really a graphics program. I use Microsoft Publisher for most of my text. I edit my images with PSP before importing them into Publisher to do the layout and add the text.
