Scanne Failure with v8.5

Post by wvd_vegt »

Hi,

I'm trying to scan diapositives and negatives directly with Photo Explorer but get a failure after scanning that there is a mismatch in buffer sizes. The scanner works fine stand-alone and from within some other apps, but not photo explorer.

My scanner is a PrimeFilm 1800i with the latest drivers for WinXP (WinXP fully patched and up-to-date).

Any suggestions?

hmm... that's weird. Once you press the scan button of Photo Explorer, it simply calls the scanner application / twain driver of your scanner. This is indipendent from other softwares (as you said it can be run alone). Hence, if it works fine stand-alone, it should also work with Photo Explorer.

Try to reinstall the TWAIN driver for your scanner. Make sure also that there's no loose connection or that you haven't changed the USB cable recently. This is because some usb extension cords like those for USB flash drives have smaller badwidth and can't accomodate the data buffer required by your scanner.

Try to change the values of your Paging File (Swap File) size in Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performace-Settings> Advanced>Virtual Memory. Set the minimum and maximum values to twice your amount of RAM. So if you have 256Mb of RAM, set both your minimum and maximum paging file limits to 512.

Hi,

I tried another program that uses the scanner and it works ok.

The scanner is usb 1.1 so bandwidth is not a problem I think.

I'll try to post the error message when i get home.

Make sure you select your scanner as the source. Go to the menu "File > TWAIN Acquire > Select Source..." to do so.

Hi,

I did, the scanner twain interface appears and scans. It's after the scan is completed that i get the error (the moment the twain interface dissapears and the image is transferred to Photo Explorer). When I dismiss the error the image is there and seems ok.
