Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
Try this:
Open image
Open smaller image and copy to clipboard
Paste as a new selection onto large image.
Click undo.
My image is now labeled as "(selection)" and any further editing is limited. Any attempt to save it results in an error message that says: Internal Program Error: An invalid parameter has been passed to a function.
The image is in fact saved to my hard drive, so I didn't lose my work. But once you paste a selection, you can't seem to undo it.
edit: I just noticed there's already a thread dedicated to x7 bugs, but the title says "PSPX7 trial users", so I didn't notice it.

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
I just tried this and got the same result. It appears that you get stuck in selection edit mode when you undo the selection. I tried to uncheck that and it crashed PSP.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
After clicking Undo I do not get a crash in XP or Win 7.
The first time I did the paste as new selection I had the smaller image there and attached to the cursor so I could move it around.
Clicking again placed the image with a selection marquee around it. In the layers it appeared as a floating selection above the Background Layer.
This part was repeatable for X6 and X7.
Clicking Undo removes the image and the selection. This was identical for X6 and X7.
Now the difference-
Repeating the paste as new selection in X6 repeats as expected.
In X7 paste as new selection and clicking shows the selection marquee and the image appears below the Background layer (I thought this was a no no).
I can drag the floating selection above the background layer but then it cannot be moved below it again.
However using the undo button places the floating selection below the background layer and undo again removes the floating selection and back to the start.
This is repeatable.
X7 is truly damaged and Corel should put a lot of resources into correcting this and other bugs.

When I said "crash", I just meant the program starts behaving in ways that it shouldn't. I experienced the same thing as you. And when I attempted to save the image so I could restart PSP, I got the error message.hartpaul wrote:After clicking Undo I do not get a crash in XP or Win 7.

X7 is too unstable for my liking so I'm going back to my older version until there's a fix.

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
PSP didn't crash for me either after pasting as a selection. It crashed after I tried to deselect the "Selection Edit" tool. I also got the same error as ovalseven when I tried to save the file. However, I later noticed that the file had actually been saved in spite of the error.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
Hi to all
I use PSP a lot but not this what you do and I need a short but detailed description. I tried it today with another picture and it didn't work.
Can somebody please attach here a small sample file and what exactly I have to do to reproduce it.
Please use keep the description short, like
1. Open image
2. Open another document with transparent layer
3. Go to first image and select content
4. Copy content
5. In second document, right-click and go to Paste as selected ...
Thanks in advance

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
Here's a quick test to show the problem. Make sure the Layers Palette is visible, it makes it easier to see what's happening.
1. Open a picture
2. Cut out a selection and copy to clipboard
3. Open a different picture (not strictly required but makes it easier to see what's going on)
4. Paste clipboard selection as a new layer
What you'll find is that the new layer is BELOW the background layer and hence isn't visible and you can't do stuff with it. Any attempt to manipulate it will result in a problem. Quick solution is to go to the Layer Palette, grab the new layer and drag it ABOVE the background. Now it's visible and can be used as normal. Fine if you only have two layers. The work I do can involve up to 20 layers so adding layers from my clipboard extender can get tedious. PSP X6 used to put the new layer just above the currently active layer which was great, X7 is less so. Customer Support apparently know about this but as yet no solution is available

Has this issue been fixed in any of the service packs? I didn't see anything regarding this in the release notes.

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
Which is probably why I don't get it. I have X7 17.3.0.30 which is SP 3
When people report problems as well as the version number X5, X6, X7 etc they also need to mention the update status which can be obtained by going to Help > About.
If this hade been mentioned in the first post, then the first answer would probably have been to Update with the latest service packs.
My mistake in not mentioning that in my first post.

Re: Undo Paste as Selection = Crash in X7
According to Corel's page, the first service pack was issued in January 2015. There was no option to update when this issue was raised or when you first replied.hartpaul wrote:If this hade been mentioned in the first post, then the first answer would probably have been to Update with the latest service packs.

Thanks for the info. If Corel has also fixed the cropping issue, I'll go back to X7. Otherwise, I'll keep X6 for now.
