Project does not fit on Bluray not matter what

Post by Shibito »

Hi there,

I am using Corel Videostudio X7. I have filmed a holiday with a full hd camcorder. I've filmed for 90 minutes and the size of the bluray folder on the SD card is 14,4GB. However, when i add the video files and make a simple intro and add some music (only two songs) then the project does not fit on Bluray when i click share and make a simple menu. The size is suddenly 23,3GB and i get the message the project will not fit on a 25GB bluray. Where does the extra 9GB coming from? Very strange. Even more strange, when i delete some scenes from the project, the project time stay's the same, no matter how many scenes i remove. And it still does not fit. When i use Imageburn to burn the BDMV folder from the SD card it fits perfectly, but that's not what i want, i want to edit and add a menu. It is a complete riddle to me why the bluray suddenly is 9GB bigger when i want to create a Bluray movie via Corel Videstudio X7. I've not added any effects, just made an intro and an outro with text and added the two songs. Can't be possibly 9GB bigger because of this. Any help? Thanks for your time.

What I suspect is happening is that you are filming in AVCHD, which is high definition mpeg-4 using the h.264 codec; but then in the burning module, VS is giving you a final figure which is based on Blu-Ray mpeg-2 -- which is less compressed, and thus larger, than AVCHD mpeg-4. When the burning screen opens, if you click on the second icon from the bottom left of screen ("Project Settings"), you will see that the Properties box at the top uses the following Properties by default:
MPEG files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 35000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Those are the Blu-Ray mpeg-2 Properties. But of course AVCHD is also one of the fully compatible Blu-Ray formats. And if you look below that Properties box in the burner module, you will see a box with "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" to its right. That box should be ticked. If it isn't, then tick it. That way, your original AVCHD will not be converted during the burning process to the much larger, less compressed mpeg-2.

However, for that to happen, you would first need to render your project in the Editing module, to a new single AVCHD file, and this can be done easily, using the Properties of your original video. Choose Share, then at the very top of the Share page. is a small box, grayed out with "Same As Project Properties", also grayed out, beside it. Tick that box and it becomes active. Then click on the downward pointing arrow to its right, and choose the other option: Same As First Video Clip. Give the new clip and name and press the blue Start button.

Once you have that new AVCHD file, you can check it to see everything is as you wanted. Then you go to Share again and select the disc Blu-Ray option. When the burning module opens, if there is anything in the timeline, delete it and add your new AVCHD manually. Then proceed as above, making sure that box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked.
