Frozen frames X7
Hi,
I just gave it a try: I downloaded the VS X7 Pro. In 2010 I bought version X3 but never used it serously because of frozen frames at the beginning of each fragment of video. I'm still using my Panasonic AVCHD camera and experience still the same problem wit VideoStudio ... each clip playing frames 1-1-1-2-3-4-5 etc.
Is there a solution known?
Thanks in advance.
Richard

Re: Frozen frames X7
Have you enabled Smart Proxy and are you allowing time for the proxy files to be created before playing the video.
If you put your files in the timeline and play them - then wait 2 or 3 minutes and play them again does it still happen
Is this phenomenon still present when you render the video after editing.

Thanks for your response. Smart proxy is on. When I export to MPEG-2 the export runs fine, to AVC/H.264 or MPEG-4 the issue is still in the exportfile. My camera files in PS17 are working well. (I'm looking again to VS because I have problens with PS17 ith projects longer than 20 minutes)

Re: Frozen frames X7
Hi Richard
Yes there does seem to be an issue with the first frame being duplicated, For me as the final rendered video file does not show these frames I have simply ignored the it.
A little correction there, it does show on the beginning of the new video but not within the main body of the video.
As my beginnings generally have some intro or “fade in “ applied I do not see any problem with playback.
It does seem strange that the duplicates can simply disappear.
So why do you see the problem frames in the rendered video.
I have just run new test and I do not get those duplicate frames in the rendered / exported video.
I have used Same as First Video Clip, that’s AVCHD from Panasonic 900 series camera.
Also to Mpeg2 for standard definition used for burning a DVD disc is ok.
I’ll run a few more tests with different formats, but I would normally use the cameras video files properties to be able to burn a bluray disc, and they seem ok...
Post updated
If I render to Mpeg4 then the duplicate frames show in the rendered file.
If I render to Same as first Video (AVCHD) with Smart Render OFF then I see the duplicate frames.
Rendering to Mpeg2 seems to have problems….
If I render to Same as First Video (Avchd) and use Smart Render then all is good.
If I use my own Avchd template all is well, no duplicates, This is my normal approach.
My brain is now pickled…..

Re: Frozen frames X7
Thanks Trevor. I'm exporting to bluray, so my export remains HD/MPEG-4. Converted to SD (MPEG-2, AVI) plays fine to me as well. This two extra frames are there each fragment at the timeline. Cutting off the beginning of each fragment is up to now the only solution. So updating from X3 to X7 will not give any improvement to this 'old' issue.

Re: Frozen frames X7
Hi Richard
You mentioned using a Panasonic camera, What are the properties of your original video files.?
I have a Pana 900 SD that records to MTS files, these are rendered to AVCHD and burned straight to Bluray without further rendering.
I use either Share Create Video File AVCHD—using my own template.
Or
Share Create Video File Same as first Clip
My video files properties are :-
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16800 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
As I said when I use these settings I do not see the duplicate frames in the final video.
Post update
Sorry, I just noticed your signature details showing the camera model, as far as I know your files should be the same as my details above??

Re: Frozen frames X7
Hi Richard
Your video files are identical to the ones I use.
Make sure your project properties match your video files properties.
Go to F6 “preferences”
Tick Show Messages when inserting first …..
Now start a new project, add your video files, should show a pop-up window to match the video file.
Edit your project, then create a video file of your project using the properties of your video file.
First create a new template using your video properties, Settings – Movie Profile Manager- use the ADD option to copy your video properties.
Share Create Video- avchd—using the template you created above………….
Or
Same as First Video—assuming your first clip is indeed your clip.
When I do the above I do not get a problem with the duplicate frames.
The resultant video files can be used in the burner module to burn a Bluray disc.
I create a Bluray Folder, Play to check quality then use ImgBurn to burn the disc.
You mentioned creating a Mp4, you do not need Mp4 to burn a bluray disc.

Re: Frozen frames X7
Thanks Trevor. Unfortunately this solution the effect remains, on timeline and in the export. When I enlarge the timeline maximal to show frames, I still get frame 1-1-1-2-3-4 etc. In VSX3 and X7. I tested othet software where that don't occurs. I like VS because of the 'friendly' timeline and the 5.1 possibilities are better than within that other software ...
Strange: when I use the new import at the timeline of Pinnacle Studio for testing, The extra frames are not there! The Original AVCDH file and the AVCHD export used on the timeline of VS will show them. Burned to BR the frames are still there. On my TV screen I notice small moments of freezing what does look not nice, although it's only for two frames. By the way: this issue was already there on my former pc with X3.
If you like I possibly can send one short fragment to you? Don't know if it's possible by PM?

Hi Richard
To share your video files you will have to upload to a sharing site, Windows One Drive will allow this. https://onedrive.live.com. Simply provide a share link to your post
The forum will not support large files.
I will do the same, provide give me a little time to render two clips together, then you can view the join to see if the extra frames.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your hint to share.
Here are the links to two fragments:

Strange: I exported a fragment by Pinnacle Studio ... that fragment doesn't get the two extra frames on my timeline ... maybe a cameraissue between VS and the SD700?

Hi Richard
Sorry for the delay in replying to you, thanks for the samples.
I have rendered those to a new video file and uploaded to One Drive can you view this video.
A little difficult to see movement in the 000096 clip but sure its there.
I placed 00006mts first then 000096mts and rendered “Same as first clip”
http://1drv.ms/1uDXn4O
54Mb
My samples
I have also created a smart package showing 3 clips, the completed rendered version is placed in the overlay track so we can compare the frames by nudging through the timelines. clearly we can see the overlay track has no duplicates, whereas the individual clips show the still frames.
This sample is a little large at 185 Mb
http://1drv.ms/1uDXcGG
Can you render the 0006 mts and 00096 mts to a new video and upload to One Drive.

Re: Frozen frames X7
Thank you Trevor. Delay is no problem. I'm also busy during the weekend.
I downloaded your 'richard test 1.m2t' and did put it on the timeline ... the two extra frames are still there: 00:00:00:00 + 00:00:00:01 + 00:00:00:02 are the same, 00:00:00:03 is the first next frame.
Then your example: also the same issue with my software, the export (right) and Original (left) at the start of the timeline do have three identical frames, the fourth frame I can see the leg is first moving into the water. But ... 0100.mts has got the frozen frames, while the export is playing well and the fourth frame is running in equal, same frame left and right version. So, the first frame of the frozen one is in fact three times the third frame. Third sample on the timeline acts the same way.
I'm leaving now, but will do the same test as you did and will report my experience hopefully tomorrow.

Re: Frozen frames X7
Hi Richard
I will agree that the first few frames are duplicated, on some clips i see 2 and others 3.
But once rendered to a single clip then the duplicates disappear.
The clip in the overlay track is the rendered clip. (same as first_01.m2t)(maybe I could have chosen a better name?)
Viewing the clip in the overlay track
The end of the first clip is at 21 sec 14 frames.
Viewing the frames at that point by nudge the timeline frame by frame each frame is different, I do not see any duplicate frames.
The next joint between clip 2 and 3 is at 00:00:39:20, again viewing the frames over this point shows different frames.
Yes there are duplicates at 00:00:00:00, but non
I will do a new recording to provide better samples.
Hmmm....your water clip works well, add that clip to the timeline twice and rendering that clip to view the joint.

Re: Frozen frames X7
Hi Trevor,
I made a screen-print of your example on my timeline: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=9 ... 2286%21109
Left is the overlay, right the rendered as you assembled it. Note the difference between the legs of the bird. It's the second clip on the timeline. I also assembled a project just like yours and did have the same results: only at 00:00:00:00 the extra frames. I had do cut all beginnings of each clip before, because the freezing was visible on the Blu-ray disc (with X3).
