A RAW file does not have an embedded profile but to get a target image with the right color, the RAW converter has to know the color space in which the RAW was created in the first place or - it will have to make some assumptions (i.e., guess) about the camera profile. A converter like Capture One (C1) has a huge table of camera profiles developed by Phase One. When you load up a RAW file, C1 determines which profile to assign the RAW from the camera make/model info embedded in the image. You can change this selection from the table although I can't think of many situations where you would want to do so. So, does anyone know what Paintshop RAW Lab does? There is certainly no user accessible table of camera profiles and none is displayed. Maybe RAW Lab simply assigns the Color Working Space profile to the image without altering pixels(??). That would seem to me rather presumptuous and an obstacle to precise work although the output usually bears a decent resemblance to what I expect (if not up to the exceptional C1 standard). Or, is there a secret table of camera profiles developed by Corel or obtained from some other source? We really need to know what is going on and to be able to control the process.
Best wishes,
