Video Studio - capture function misses the target

Post by JD3359 »

I have VS Pro X5 running on Windows 8.1. When I use the screen capture, it all looks good as capturing is occurring, but when I review it the capture has missed the target. In other words, the image is shifted to the left. The left part of what I thought was being captured is on the right, and something else is on the left. It always cuts off the right. Any ideas?

Check you have the most up to date graphics card drivers from the manufacturer, also latest directx.
Do you just have one monitor?

Graphics and DirectX appear to be up to date, at least according to the manufacturer, HP. There is just one monitor as it is a laptop.

This is what is happening. To illustrate, I set up a red circle in a blue field (figure 1), and did a screen capture so as to place the red circle in the center. The result was Figure 2. It is skewing way left.

Hi,

No, the laptop is at the default setting. I'm puzzled.

My old brain recalls seeing this problem being posted in the past.

I will do a search of the forum later, a little short of time just now………

One thought---If you are recording the full screen, can you try reducing the recording area.

When I capture full screen, it cuts off the right portion of the screen, probably about 20-25%. The left side is fine. The shot that I posted was done with a freehand screen capture in which I placed the red oval in the center of the box. The left line of the box is visible in the result I posted, but the right side did not show up.

Hi, unfortunately I have found VS Pro x5 does not run well for Screen Capture in Win 8.1.More details are in this: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 6&start=15
In short, I refreshed my computer back to WIN 8 and screen capture works great. Of course, if your laptop came with WIN 8.1 you may need to upgrade to x7.

Thanks all; it seems I was able to solve the problem (with your help). Windows 8.1 allows a program to run on an earlier version of Windows (through an option available in the control panel). Skier Hughes theorized that the 8.1 was the culprit, and sure enough once I downshifted back to Windows 7 (just for Video Studio), the capture lined up right.

As an aside, I had also used the capture that was way off for a while by exaggerating the capture area greatly and then cropping it. That was at least a workaround.

Anyway, thanks all for weighing in - it made the difference!
