Need Help with After Shot pro
Need Help with After Shot pro
My First Post on this Forum:
Some time ago, I licensed (ASP) After Shot Pro version 1.0.0.39 and now "finally" starting to "try to use and evaluate" it for processing Canon RAW (CR2) files exposed with 50D and 1dsMK II. I realize this is an older version and I know there is a recent later version which I may consider at a later date.
My first very basic question is "How to close a file without exiting ASP" after opening a RAW file and either have made a few changes (edits) or have not made any changes -- and want to close the file (without saving any type file) and without Exiting ASP. Then I can open a different file in ASP, as desired.
This method is probably "right under my nose" -- but I have not found it.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
There is no concept of closing files.
All adjustment instructions are written to the XMP right away.
Just go to the next file.....
cheers

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
Thanks for the feed back. This is a new one on me. ASP is my first software that works with files that I have encountered without the normal file open, close, etc Functions.
The second (and subsequent) files may be opened but evidently the current (or active) file continues to be displayed in the edit screen and requires opening the access to the thumbnails in order to click to activate the next file into the working window or screen.
There must be a reason for such but so far I have not determined why unless it is linked in some way to the other features of the program to place images in the additional area (Catalog) that may be used.
Anyway, thanks for answering my inquiry and now I will continue with my review.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
I (just now) read the various posts in a Dpreview Forum thread regarding After Shop Pro 2. There are comments regarding Version 1.x and the new 2.x. Is it possible for a Licensed User of the 1x version to also install the v2.x and NOT disturb the 1.x installed version.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
All this file open close stuff is rather inefficient when dealing with many images.
Other programs like Lightroom have copied the more efficient approach of a workflow oriented program. (AfterShot is the follow on of Bibble, the first independent raw converter on the market).
You can install v1 and v2 in parallel. But, some features are not compatible (NN vs AT NR), so editing the same files in both is risky.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
Thanks for the reply.
My primary reason for asking is that I currently have the 1.x version installed (for close to a year) and have recently began to do some testing with only a few images regarding the RAW Processing and saving as TIIF type file(s). I was aware of the Noise Ninja function having been dropped from ASP in a version later than the one I now have -- and not being in the latest release 2.x.
I would not be using both versions of ASP for the same images. My concern is (was) if I should get the results that I want while testing with 1.x, there is a possibility of licensing the 2.x version but I never like to drop (or have dropped or replaced) a version when acquiring a later version of a "primary type" software such as Photoshop, other RAW converters, etc.
Thanks for the information and I assume if I do get ASP 2.x, I should just select a different Folder to install that version so to not have any effect on the current 1.x installed version.
I have other Noise Removal software that operates "stand alone" or as a Plug-In for Photoshop -- but it of course is not applicable with (or while) processing RAW images.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
This morning, I installed AfterShot Pro 2 (ASP 2) using a separate Folder in Drive C for 64 Bit programs. It installed without issues and ask for the locations for Work area and Catalog. I assigned folders different from the previous installed (and actively used) AfterShot Pro 1 (ASP 1).
However, when I tried to execute the ASP 2 version it gives the following messages and will not load:
AfterShot Pro is already Running.
Only one instance of Aftershot pro can run a time.
I went to the EXE file for ASP 2, renamed to add 2 in the name and created a new Shortcut. I also did this for ASP 1.
Neither will start up and displays the same "above" message.
I checked Task Manager to see if anything was running and it shows that nothing is running.
Will you please help me to be able to run EITHER (one at a time) as per your reply several days ago.
I will appreciate your assistance especially since I am not going to uninstall ASP 1 just to allow ASP 2 to execute.
My Regards,
Vernon....

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
Looks like there is a dead lockfile somewhere.
But I have no clue what the Windows version uses for that and right now I can't play on the windows box to find it.

Thanks for your reply.
There is no rush. When you have time, hopefully you will be able to find the 'Locking" used in Windows so I can again install ASP 2.
For the present time, I uninstalled ASP 2 so I can continue to use ASP1 for some images I am processing to try to get the best possible results. Thankfully, after the un-install, ASP 1 is back working.
I had planned to go ahead and use ASP 2 for these but as discussed, could not get it to run.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
This sounds strange.
An uninstall should not touch any user specific stuff like the lock.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
Is it possible that is not why neither will execute when both are installed in separate folders on the same computer.
Have you possible had both ASP1 and ASP 2 installed as discussed above --OR-- know of anyone that has had this same with both installed. If so, would each execute (one at a time)
I believe it is a "less than appropriate" message (as per my original post) regarding --"ASP already running". I believe it perhaps should have been "Another ASP is already Installed".
Also, this makes me wonder if only ONE version of ASP can be installed and used (at a time) on one computer with using one Operating System. If this is the case, it may be programmed (the less than versatile method) and have the Folder & File Names are Hard coded plus possibly details that are recorded (and used) in the Registry have the same descriptions and will not allow ASP 1 and ASP 2 to share these items.
Certainly, I have basically NO familiarity with Corel's Programming Methods and you would have much more knowledge of how to 'Get Around or get to work properly" whatever issue is causing ASP 1 and ASP 2 to not "live together".
Any ideas will be appreciated to get this resolved.
I have tried to contact Corel Tech Support but all I found want specific installed software details to be "pre defined" and of course I can't get it to run even to enter the Activation code.

Re: Need Help with After Shot pro
Did you find a solution ?
I arrived on this thread because I also had the error message "AfterShot Pro is already Running. Only one instance of Aftershot pro can run a time" when launching ASP1. I had both ASP1 and ASP2 installed on my windows 7 64bits, since many months, and I never had any problem until this day ! And the problem was... the TEMP directory. Indeed, in my environment variables, there was :
TEMP, defined as F:\TEMP
TMP, defined as F:\TMP
BUT I changed the name of the F drive, not the environment variables ! Changing the path of those variables solved my problem.
I hope this would help someone who would face the same (very upseting) issue...!
