X7 and NIK Color EFEX Pro 3.0 complete

Post by yupus »

Okay, as usual, against my better judgment I took the opportunity to upgrade from X6 to X7 and, yes, it throws up issues.

X7 64 with my full version of EFEX Pro 3.0 which works fine under X6 64 now doesn't. Message box saying 'Plugin caused an access violation'

any thoughts?

just tried the trial of the (now) Google NIK suite and in PSP X7 added the plugin folders and they don't appear as an effect. Note this was just a test, the version 3.0 of EFEX Pro worked fine in X6 but not X7

That's interesting because Nik Color Efex 3 does not even shop up in my 64-bit version of X6. Works fine in the 32-bit versions of X6 & X7.

Yeah mine was the full version. I believe the free version that Corel gave would only work 32Bit

Hi.

I'm also facing in PSP X7 the message box 'Plugin caused an access violation' when launching Google Nik Collection.

Any workaround?

Thanks!

It's unfortunate that Paintshop Pro continues to be a source of frustration for so many. I have a very fast PC and complete collection of Nik plugins. I have a very fast PC but can't take advantage of 64-bit memory addressing because 64-bit PSP and 64-bit Nik plugins don't get along (the PSP script that works for so many doesn't work for me). I don't even mind that I saw no performance difference between 32-bit and 64-bit X6 but it infuriates me because I work with very large images that 32-bit cannot handle. I have had to get Photoshop CS6 just so I can use the full set of Nik filters (when working with large files). For day to day editing, it's X6 and a number of 32-bit Nik and Topaz filters.

I have a support case open on this and in 'discussions' with an operative who says that it is a Google compatibility issue because they now own NIK. Of course it isn't as the plugin hasn't changed only the PSP software and seeing from other threads that other plugins report the same message it looks like customers are doing beta testing for Corel (again)

Yes, I saw that. That is the current version, 4.0. I have the full version 3.110 from when Google didn't own NIK and the 64bit version works fine with the 64bit version of PSP X6. I was, maybe foolishly as it's an upgrade after all, that X7 would continue to work with plugins that worked in X6. Seems a straightforward logic to me, it's a plugin after all.

Ah OK. I have been using X6 for less than 2 months after upgrading from X3 and have it to be very exceptionally stable. From what I've read about X7, I think I'm going to stay with X6 for a long time as there's nothing in the new release I need. I certainly don't need compatibility issues to deal with.

wow, really don't bother reporting bugs with X7 you just get this sort of crap in reply.

"We don't guarantee that they will work with PaintShop Pro X7, it may install in either 32-bit or 64-bit but stability and performance is not viable. If you are unhappy with the program, you have the option to return it. "

This is despite the fact it's meant to be an 'upgrade'. The 'help' desk just push back with denial and don't even bother to escalate bugs. You're just told that if you don't like it you can return it. What a way to run a business.

I just recently started my photography hobby again and bought myself a Nikon D5300, shooting at 14k but 12k is also an option. I must say I have no idea really what the difference is.

At the same time I bought X6 and days later I was told X7 is available. They were all very nice and credited X6 and I bought X7.

In the short period that I used X6, I had no problems with my RAW files (.NEF). The moment I switched to X7 I experienced a purple tint to all my RAW files, using the exact same workflow as I did before.

Corel Support was quick and we passed quite a few e-mails between us in two days but the end result is "X7 does not support 14k RAW files." Fair enough it is their prerogative to make these pronouncements as I am fortunate in their case that I can switch to shooting at 12bit. This does however seem very much like a backward step. They could also not tell me whether Corel plans to support 14bit.

There are several threads active on this board about the Nik filters.
The problem seems to be an "access violation" message.

When X7 was first brought out, this problem ocurred with a lot of plugins.
Reason being that X7 could not be excluded from the Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) security.
With Servicepack 1 installed this is again possible, like it was for previous PSP versions.

This is how you exclude PSP X6/X7 from the Windows DEP:

* Click the Start button and choose Computer | System Properties | Advanced System Settings
* From the System Properties dialog, select Settings
* Select the Data Execution Prevention tab
* Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select
* Click Add and use the browse feature to browse to the program executable you wish to exclude (for example, excel.exe or word.exe).

Hi folks,

I found this thread while trying to figure out how to get my plugins to work in 32 bit PSP X7. You do NOT have to turn off DEP for the plugins to work. Really, that's not a good idea as it's just asking for trouble. All I did was install PSP X7 Service Pack 1. I've tried a few plugins and so far, no more access errors, no more memory issues. I already had the needed DLLs for my 32 bit plugins to work when I came across those error messages. When I had X7 look for updates, it said there were none. They're actually here (see link below). Hope this helps :D
