VSPX5 crashes on opening project

Post by Rawcoll »

My VSP X5 used to be OK, though sometimes temperamental, but has now started crashing whenever I go to open a project. It brings up an error window saying something to the effect "Error #15. Init libiomp5md.dll, but found libguid40.dll already initialised", and refers me to Intel support. Anyone any idea what's going on please?

I'm on X5 v15.2.0.10, on Win v7 Prof SP1.

Hi

I assume your pc is using Intel motherboard or Graphics cards

Have you checked Intel support to make sure your drivers are upto date.

Also try Windows Optional updates

If you Zip a VSP file, attach to your post and I will try to open it, I will not be able to view the content, but it should not crash my program.

I'm running an i7-2600K cpu in an Asus P8P67-M mboard, with an Asus AMD Radeon 1GB graphics card.

Well, I'm always reluctant to start updating drivers etc, rightly or wrongly, when my system is running satisfactorily. The point is though, VSPX5 was running satisfactorily. It is only recently that it has started acting up, with no change to anything, and now I am unable to open a project at all! So I don't see that drivers could be the problem here. Thanks for the offer to try out a project, but it isn't a particular project. If I just go to "File" - "Open Project", it crashes.

Hi

Try resetting the program, first close X5

Go to:-
C:\Users\User name \AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0

Rename the folder 15.0 to 15.0Copy

Starting the program will generate a new 15.0 folder

Does that help

Thanks Trevor, no it doesn't!

I had just posted some additional info, but which seems to have got lost in the aether. I am able to open a project by double-clicking on the VSP file from Windows Explorer, but it seems that I can neither use the "File-Open Project" dialogue, nor can I import new media files into the program.

Do you think re-installing the program would help?

Hi

It does seem a very strange problem.

Yes re-installing the program was going to be my next suggestion.
I have attached a Cleanup file provided by Corel, maybe that would help.

Thanks, so when and how do I use that please? Before reinstalling?

To unload the existing VSP, presumably I just do that through Control Panel? My video and project files are on a different drive.

Hi
Unzip the file…
Double clicking the Cleanup file should uninstall Video Studio X5, it is also supposed to remove other files from the registry, effectively doing a clean uninstall.

If you uninstall via Control Panel then run the Cleanup it may id some leftover files.

I would simply run the Cleanup Tool.

I assume you have the installation files available as well as the Serial numbers to re-install.

Update

You say the files are on a different drive, I assume that to be an internal drive not networked or via usb?
Video Studio ---- when trying to open a project will try to access the last used folder, if that is not available then it may cause problems, just trying to think of anything that may be causing this problem?????

Hi

There is another poster having the same issues, also one that seems to have fixed his problem. Do a search of the forum for libiomp5md.dll produces some hits.

Please read this post to see if it helps

Hi Trevor

No they are internal drives. BUT, a reinstall hasn't worked, I still get the same problem! And of course I've lost all of the imported media links as well.

As the error window referred to .dll files I did a search for those and none of the ones mentioned in the window showed up. Don't know what's going on here.

Hi Trevor

Just saw your latest message after I posted, thanks for that. It might work, haven't tried yet. Hmm, might have been useful before I reinstalled. I've lost my folders and all the media links therein, I suppose they've gone for good? Or are they lurking somewhere and retrievable? Where would they have been stored?

I can see why 654321 encountered the issue as he had just installed X6, but mine was working happily until very recently. I can't think why the situation should have changed. And it worries me that it says it may cause undefined behaviour, as I don't want to upset my other applications just because VSP is having a hissy fit.

Hi Ian

I have done a bit of googling as well.
The link from the other post.. http://www.cyberlink.com/support/produc ... o?id=12820
Takes us to Intel and Cyberlink software.

Have you installed any Cyberlink Software that may be conflicting with Video Studio.

This is the link to the other posters problems with X6
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54420

Maybe you can ask (cobrairon ) what software he has installed

sorry I will be unavailable for a while but will catch up later today.

Thank you Trevor. I looked at the Intel link from the Cyberlink link, and although there is much computer gook I don't fully understand (but think I get the gist of), there is this statement "3) Set KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK=TRUE environment variable to ignore the library conflict, which is not really recommended to do though." which I think was the recommended solution (with my emphasis). I'm not sure whether it is a result of a Cyberlink application having the same issue, or whether there is a conflict with the Cyberlink application. However, I feel rather nervous messing with the underpinnings of my computer system in order to solve an issue raised by the workings of VSP. Shouldn't have to, really. Again, I don't understand how this has come about, unless VSP got its proverbials in a twist the last time I used it.

I am not aware of any Cyberlink product on my PC.

Maybe it's time to look elsewhere (but not to Cyberlink either!). I'm not prepared to try upgrading to VSPX7 if it might have the same issue.

Ah, managed to get my folders and media links back! I still had "15.0copy" on my system, and deleting the "new" 15.0 and renaming the copy version worked.

Re: VSPX5 crashes on opening project

If I've managed to glean things correctly, it seems that somewhere in the Intel software architecture there are 2 DLL files, the latest being libiomp5md.dll, the other, libguide40.dll, is outdated but included to provide backwards compatibility. The problem arises (I'm sort of guessing here!) when either different software, or different components of the same software, access both files, because having the 2 files open isn't allowed. Now I get this problem when only VSP is open, so I don't know whether one of the DLL files isn't being closed when another piece of software exits, or whether there are other processes running in the background causing the conflict, or whether VSP is itself to blame.

imtimkman states that VSPX5 uses the old DLL file http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... md#p267039 (though I don't know how he knows that), and found another program running on his system that uses the other DLL file.

Other than that I'm stumped.
