Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable...
before anyone asks.. im not a computer wiz... im not a producer.. I do not know anything about anything. im new and basic.
I do music as a living and when I finish editing my exported music file plays EVERYWHERE and EXCEPT VSP...
sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. theres no pattern to it at all! and im so fed up with it. I want it to just accept my file and let me edit my video that's all.
it tells me "content is unreadable". when in fact I know it is. its a WAV file. and before anyone asks what VSP I am using.. I have no idea. nor do I know how to find out.
and I do not know the specifics of my computer. im not a wiz.
when I bought VSP I wanted something simple and easy to use... Im regretting my decision. I would appreciate very much if someone could shine some light onto the subject of audio not working.
thanks

Hi
And welcome to the forums
Sorry you are having problems with the program especially with Wav audio files, those should be ok.
First what version of Video Studio are you using….
How are you trying to open/insert the audio files to Video Studio.?
There are several ways to do this.............
File – Insert Media Files to Timeline – Insert Audio
Browse for your files on the hard drive
Do they play?

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
i dont know what one i have. i stated that in the above text and i dont know how to find out what i have.
my files play on everything and only sometimes work on VSP.
but i cannot base my career on "sometimes" anymore.
i need to to work all the time.
i just drag the file into vsp into the audio section and it will load easily but say the content is unreadable.
i can play these files on everything else.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
How do you open VideoStudio - do you have an icon on your desktop - what does it say under it - it will tell you the version of VS you are using.
Or do you go via the start menu - in which case what is the name of the program you choose to start - that will tell you the version number.
As the programme starts and before Videostudio opens a window appears this is commonly called a 'splash' screen - it tells you in there what version you are using for instance the one for X6 is shown below. We assume you are not using the latest version because that tells you the version number in large letters in the top left corner - as below

Hi
Well the only thing I know is you are frustrated that wav files sometimes work and other tines don’t.
That is all we know, so you are not telling us much, but we are trying to help you.............
I asked that you try to insert the wav files using this approach,
( File – Insert Media Files to Timeline – Insert Audio
Browse for your files on the hard drive )
You do not say if this worked or whether it caused the same errors.
That is assuming you did actually try……………
--------------------------------------------------
Provide a Sample
When you find a Wav that causes the problem can you provide that file as a sample.
Add the file to a Sharing Site, DropBox seems quite good
Microsoft outlooks One Drive is also available free.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
okay so the "splash screen" says its pro X3. and i open it from a file folder on my desktop.
i tried the method you suggested.
it still comes up with "file is unreadable".
yet it did insert and play just fine into the track but it does not appear in the audio files on the side.
i still cant afford for things to be unreadable. because they still might not work even using this method at some point.
i am unsure how to use a "drop box".
and id rather not give out my email.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
no cancel that. when i re opened my work the audio would not play and VSP keeps automatically closing. no warning no nothing. everytime i try to play the sound...
this is highly aggravating!
and when i try to restart it all again, the same thing happens. content unreadable, plays, playback stopped, playback resumed, program closes unexpectedly. that is the exact pattern.

Hi
I do not own X3, (video Studio 13)
But I think it may be your Wav files that’s causing the issues, I assume you are creating the wav files, do you use the default settings or change them to your liking?
If you were to use Wav files from another source, do they play ok, you say it does not affect all wav files, is that correct?
How large are the Wav files, you should be able to e-mail.
If you agree to share your e-mail address with me I will e-mail you using your forum account mail address.
Then you can reply attaching a problem Wav file, it may be best to also send a working wav file?
Let me know…..
The Audio file on the side are part of the library, inserting clips here allows for a quick access allowing you to add to timeline from library.

Hi
Unfortunately the e-mail size limit will be approx 20 mb so your files are too big to mail.
You can use a sharing site to upload your files One Drive may be the best option, from Windows Microsoft I think.
https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/
If you have some that work and others that don’t, what is the difference.
Did you make them with different software or use different audio properties, maybe using a very high data rate?
I am assuming you created the files and not downloaded from the internet.
Where did you get the audio files from?

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
i created the files myself. they are my music. i created them in sonarX3
the only difference between previous working files and non working is that there are more sound effects used the non working ones.
but that shouldnt make a difference. the final product/song should still play regardless of what effects or changes ive made to the song in the creating process.
perhaps the final format or it yes. but its still a wav file.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
So we have established that you have some audio files which play and some do not.
You have established that the ones that do not play are the ones with extra sound effects - yet you do not relate the extra sound effects to your file not playing ??
If you recreate an audio file which does not work but leave out the additional sound effects do you then get an audio file which works ?
Pointing to a problem with the sound effects to me.
Yes they may all be wav files but that is just a file TYPE - all .wav files are not created equal.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
okay so i removed all the sound effects and created a new file. i still get the same thing. it wont read it.
if someone can email me i can give both the files to them to show. ill upload them to skydrive.
it seems now that no matter what i create i cannot use vsp.
and my work is behind by a week now. stressing out.

Re: Cannot open my audio files on VSP.. content unreadable..
None of the files you sent me would open in my X7.
They would open in Edius, my editing programme of choice.
I opened the audio files in Adobe Audition an re-saved them as 8 and 16 bit files which all worked in VS.
I opened one of the files in audition and re-saved it as a 16bit file and this also worked in VS.
I tried opening your audio files in GSpot, a codec detecting programme and it couldn't tell me what codec was required to open the files, which is pretty unusual, as it can normally detect even the most unusual ones.
It appears to me, that the codec used by the programme you are using is not compatible with VS. You could see if the programme has a choice of codecs available to use to create the WAV file, or continue to use the one that is uses and then drop the file into Audacity, re-save it as a wav file from there and this will then work in the programme.
