X7 will not run scripts

Post by Jenn76 »

Hello I been using psp since 9 and have gone from my X5 to X7 and I run a lot of scripts.. I can not figure out why the new X7 I just bought will not run any of the scripts it just stalls out no reason. Is there dll files missing for this one like other ones or is there something so changed that I need to do to fix this please help its a bit frustrating to have a new toy and not have it work for which it is partially made for.

I just tested with the scripts that come with X7 and can verify that the one called 12 Vintage crashes my X7. It does work in X6. Have not tested the rest that come with X7 only the first 20 and a couple of other random ones.

All of the scripts that came with PSPX7 that I have tried, including 12 Vintage demonstrated above, will work on my system.

The "12 Vintage" script crashed for me the first time I tried it but now it seems to be working. I've tried a couple of scripts that didn't come with X7 and they both worked. One was from Cassel and the other was from LeviFiction.

This is not about the scripts that come with psp this is about OUTSIDE scripts that I buy that work in all other versions that do not work in x7 and this keeps me from being able to make a scrap kit with x7 and worthless if i can not use it for which it is designed for my hobby. And yes the filter meister collection crashes out mine too . What is a DEP problem and how is it fixable?

Have just repeated and Vintage crashes PSP X7 on an XP computer, but not on Windows 7 so it appears that PSP is no longer fully compatible with XP.

I can't understand why Corel can't make a product that runs correctly out of the box. It seems we have to go through this process of being beta testers each and every time. Thank goodness I am not a power user like many of you are that would be real frustrating. In the future, when Corel comes out with a new PSP, I think I will wait until there is to be another new release and buy the previous one. Usually by then most of the bugs have been worked out of the old one and it's reasonable stable.

Jenn, this is a user to user web board (as stated on the header), so although Corel staff occasionally peek in, this is not the communication line to Corel.

Jenn76, can I ask what the scripts you tried are? Where can I buy them to test with? It's kind of hard to diagnose why Corel is failing to run your scripts if we can't test the same ones.

I am a retired software engineer and, although I have never worked for Corel, I have to say that software programs of any complexity are the most complex logical constructs humans have ever put together with literally millions of possible code paths. Such large programs are almost inherently buggy since they are not generally fully tested. Most companies (I can not speak for Corel) employ manual testers to test GUI based software and they cannot come close to properly testing software.

Since software is generally released based on marketing schedules there is almost always more testing to do, but no time to do it. Add to that the combination of operating systems (Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista with its multiple versions, XP and so on), service packs and hardware and the problem is even more complex. For example I am running X7 on a MacBook Pro running Windows 8 under Parallels. I doubt anyone seriously tested that platform configuration. Early adapters thus become, in essence, beta testers. There are better ways to do testing but most businesses in the industry are too slow to adopt new practices.

When I was still working many of our customers would only buy the previous release plus the accumulated fixes just because of this issue and I know software engineers who will not buy new releases. You are not alone in your concerns!

Have just done some more tests and it is not the vintage script that does not work. Effects > Time Machine is the one that fails. and this is called up by the Vintage Script.
Both run on PSP X6 and also run on Windows XP . So something has changed in the Effects between X6 and X7 which makes it non-functional on Windows XP.

While not a big script user, they do come in handy for adjusting MULTIPLE images.

MS no longer supports XP, IIRC, and that should be some indication. I noticed that X7 installed MS Visual C++, and in Control Panel, Programs and Features, there is listed a Visual C++ 2012 Redistribute 11.0.61030
