Import/Export of PSP Preferences

Post by dejudicibus »

One of the major drawbacks of Paint Shop Pro is that when you install a new version it DOES NOT automatically import the Preferences from the previous version. That forces users to manually reapply all the settings which is really a cumbersome and annoying activity. In particular, you have to apply again all File Locations. Usually it takes to me half a day to install a new version of PSP because I have to replicate by hands all the customization I did to the previous version.

PSP has no feature to export preferences and the customer support does not provide any info on registry structure to save preferences-related record and copy to the new version.

Does anybody know some technique or trick to trasnfert preferences from a PSP version to the next one? It is really bad that PSP is missing such a fundamental feature!

No such feature exists, thought it would be nice. For each new version I keep the prior version on my computer as a guide in setting up the new preferences and workspace, and I've done it so many times it only takes about 20 minutes.

Well, I do the same but it is really a mess. I wonder why such a basic feature is missing. I have from 4 to 6 folders for each file location, such as tubes, filters, patterns, and scripts. I also heavily change menus and toolbars and use many scripts. Corel is underestimating the importance of Python scripts, in my opinion. PSP is much more than a simple photo editing program. It could become a Photoshop competitors better than Photo-paint.
