Any others here who use both IrfanView and Paintshop Pro 8? (The issue may arise in later PSP versions too.)
If so I'd be interested to know if you've had the following problem please.
I open any JPG in IrfanView and use Ctrl + C to copy a section of it to the clipboard. As soon as I try to paste that with Ctrl + V into PaintShop Pro 8, PSP8 closes without warning. Well, on 95% of occasions. Strangely, a couple of times the new image has been opened correctly in PSP8, which may point to some sort of timing issue.

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
I don't have that problem and I use PSP8 most of the time and often copy and paste from IrfanView. I'm not using the most recent version of IrfanView though. I've got v4.28.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
Thanks LindaSue. Hmm, I wonder if it's dependent on IrfanView version - mine is 4.38.
--------------------
Looks like it is. Just successfully pasted half a dozen times from IrfanView 4.20. I'll email Irfan.

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
I have Irfanview 4.30 .
And Control C and Control V work as expected. You can also use Edit -> Copy in Irfanview and Right click Paste as New Image in PSP8

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
Thanks. Mystery remains unsolved. So it seems the problem only arises (and even then not 100% of the time) with material on clipboard copied from IrfanView 4.38, not from 4.20 or 4.28 or 4.30.
Irfan understandably insists it cannot be an IrfanView problem. Here's the email exchange to date:
I: "Sorry, if there is any bug, it is in the program which does the Paste
operation
=> nothing in IrfanView ... the pasted image is sitting in the
Clipboard, not in IrfanView."
Me: "But that doesn't explain why this problem arises only when pasting
from version 4.38."
I: "I don't recall any image copy/paste changes in IrfanView since many versions.
Again, the problem is NOT in IrfanView ... the paste-program is responsible.
Couldn't find any clue in Event Viewer. May also try SysInternals ProcMon, although often find that difficult to interpret. I suspect it could be a conflict with some other app. And/or a memory limit issue. I have 4 GB physical RAM, of which XP uses around 3 GB. Seems plenty but I do tend to have a lot of stuff running simultaneously. Just failed to reproduce the crash after fresh PC reboot this morning, which reinforces above suspicions - but still leaves me baffled as to why only 4.38!

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
Just did some more checking:
PSP8
I made a selection from Irfanview and did a control C.
I opened another Irfanview window and applied Control V and the selection was pasted.
I opened PSP8 and did Control V and the image was pasted.
I checked Edit from the menu bar and it had the option Control V as paste as new image available.
Later versions of PSP from at least X2 have dropped Control V and it is unassigned.
They use Shift Control V to paste as new image.
You might check your keyboard map in PSP 8 under Help . Look at All comands and arrange the shortcut keys and see if Control V is assigned,
Then switch over to View - Customise and for Edit - Paste as New image assign it to Control V and see if that works for you.

Re: Pasting from IrfanView to PSP8
Thanks, appreciate your testing. But Ctl+V works reliably for me in PSP 8.
Did two more tests today and the pastes worked OK. But I don't have my heavy video editor running at present (just Firefox, Excel 2000, TextPad, Dropbox, Outlook, PerfectDisk, Avira Antivir, Snagit, ActiveSync, SecondCopy, Macro Express Pro, and a bunch of utilities/services) so maybe that's significant.
