Re: PSPX7 trial users
I've been using PSP XI since it came out, and thought I'd try the new version - particularly for the 64-bit memory handling.
++ handles all 8GB memory, and large images
++ smart fill is quite good (not perfect) at removing objects
++ smart selection is much better than old magic wand or point-to-point selection
++ faster, even in 64-bit mode
== smart edge brush strokes aren't the panacea they appear to be, sometimes brilliant, sometimes Meh!
-- not all brushes which off Smart Edge use it effectively
-- PSP fails *sometimes* when I use the Twain scanner - it doesn't close the scanner window, and then won't close itself or the scanner, nor scan again. Forced to use Task manager
-- PSP help is as rubbish as ever. The "More..." links to help pages are the same old "restate what is written on the screen", which is never helpful to reach from in the program. Nothing on "why" use a feature, or "what if you don't".

Re: PSPX7 trial users
I have run into a bug when running a script that I just created in X7.
I am attaching pics of one run in X6 and one run in X7 - The X7 does something weird to the script when smudging - the circled areas have a totally different color, and not sure where it's getting it from:
This is annoying, and one more reason why I should STILL be on your beta team! Scrapbooking designers depend on me to make scripts that are compatible with ALL versions of PSP, and when something like this happens, something that I have no way of fixing, it wastes my time, and time is money. Please put me back on the beta team - you need me!!

Re: PSPX7 trial users
I have the PSP X7Trial. Running Windows 7. My system specs aren't important here I don't' think, because I've looked around and noticed others are having similar issues with this.
X7 *almost* got my money today but it appears it's just not compatible with PSD files... which is the most ludicrous thing in a professional art program I've ever seen. I can open them, I think. I can't *save* as them. I go to save this file that was due to a client two hours ago and it insisted it saves as one layer with only 256 colors. Or only gives me .pic as an option. The Photoshop file is there in the choice list. It won't do it right.
So yeah, no. I love some of the new things in this program, but this is ridonkulous. Corel should know that PSD compatibility is practically a requirement in the art word these days. Mabye it's a mistake or a bug, but I have a hard time accepting that could happen unless they never ever test PSD files on their system while developing things at all.
Major disappointment!

You can save in .psd format with layers as long as the image is 8-bit rather than 16-bit. The message I get when I try to save a 16-bit layered image is that it needs to reduce the colors to "24-bit (16.7 million)" but it keeps the layers intact.spearcarrier wrote:I have the PSP X7Trial. Re: PSPX7 trial users
No I can't. The image in question is 8-bit. I've tried other color formats, which switches me from being forced to save to pic to being saved as a png. I'll attach what I get - and I had to use X4 just to get them saved as jpgs because X7 wouldn't let me do that either. I've associated all files to it. When I installed I did typical install. I have nothing excluded. It's just not working right. This will be the third time in a row I will not upgrade from X4. I see no point in spending grocery money on a program that will not let me do anything I need to do. I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone either - and believe you me I'm *usually* the person who recommends PSP. For now I'm the person who recommends finding a copy of Photoshop CS2. :-pLindaSue wrote:You can save in .psd format with layers as long as the image is 8-bit rather than 16-bit. Re: PSPX7 trial users
I have loaded an image of a landscape into X7. Then another image of a plane. Used object extractor to get the plane against a transparent background. Edit Copy , Edit paste as new layer on the landscape picture. Images are 8 bit.
Saved as .psd - no problems.
Loaded into CS2 and showed the two layers OK. Saved from CS2 with new name. Loaded into X7 , and again no problems and maintained the two layers.
This on XP with 32 bit X7 and also on Win 7 laptop with 64 bit X7.
So far have confirmed compatibility of 8 bit psd files with X7.
Do not work in 16 bit files as I cannot see the difference.

Re: PSPX7 trial users
I guess you guys are just more fortunate than I am I guess. Being told how it's working for everyone else unfortunately doesn't solve my own problem.
It doesn't work over here, and so far that's as far as I'm able to get. I haven't been able to find anything to trouble shoot the problem, and after a day of searching I'm having to give up. I just don't have a lot of time to fight it, not when I can save as PSD using my X4.

Be thankful you can continue to use X4 and have no need for X7 - I don't have that optionspearcarrier wrote:I guess you guys are just more fortunate than I am I guess. I saw your trouble earlier - I don't really understand your problem, but it certainly gave me a second pause when I was already having issues! Even if it does work great for some people, it should work great for *all* of us.. otherwise it's a loss as a resource!jojomart wrote: Be thankful you can continue to use X4 and have no need for X7 - I don't have that optionI make scripts that have to be tested in all versions, and when it doesn't work only in that version it's a real pain in the butt!

Re: PSPX7 trial users
I design images for digital scrapbooking designers - they use the images to create kits that people can buy online to do scrapbooking. I draw the images and record my steps as I'm making them, then I code it so that people can run the script in PSP and choose their own colors or patterns to make an image in the colors they need for their kitsspearcarrier wrote:I saw your trouble earlier - I don't really understand your problem, but it certainly gave me a second pause when I was already having issues! Re: PSPX7 trial users
Hi there. I have downloaded the trial for PSPX7 just 3 days ago, and love it so far (I am very new to all of this photo editing stuff). But I am encountering a problem. I'm trying to figure how to resize the large photo into a book cover photo dimensions of 6x9. Figuring out where the resize button was pretty easy. But how it set up the cover is what I didn't like. Also, once you go on the resize part, it doesn't let you resize it how you want to. It automatically does it for you after you change the width or height (after changing one or the other). I am a rising indie author, and am publishing my books on Createspace. I have downloaded their template, and tried to use on PSPx7, but it doesn't resize the picture I've been working on as how I want it (template was more used as a photo rather than a template). Is there anyway to fix this? Are there any templates on PSPx7 that I can use? Please help! Any suggestions are helpful.

Re: PSPX7 trial users
You would have been better off to have posted this as a thread with a subject specific to your question, rather than adding to this very long, general thread. However, since it's here . . .Skeletons93 wrote:Hi there. I have downloaded the trial for PSPX7 just 3 days ago, and love it so far (I am very new to all of this photo editing stuff). . . . .![]()
I think there are two aspects to your problem, cropping and resizing.
When you start with a photo that has a different aspect ratio (long side divided by short side) than you want, first you need to crop to the correct ratio. Say you have a 5x7 (aspect ratio 1.4), and you want to end up with a 4x6 (aspect ratio 1.5), select the crop tool and in that tool there is a window from which you can select the desired aspect ratio. When you drag a corner or side of the tool the aspect ratio stays constant. In your case you want a 6x9 (1.5) which is the same same aspect ratio as the 2x3 (4x6) in the crop tool.
In resizing, the number of pixels in the photo is changed. Say you have a photo that is 8 MB but you want to send it somewhere where the maximum size is much smaller. You would select Image/Resize from the menu and enter a new value for the size, either in pixels or print size. Note the lock symbol between the horizontal and vertical dimensions; it is there as a default and it would be rare to turn that off. If the lock were off and you entered dimensions separately, the final product would be distorted. Say you start with a horizontal dimension of 7 and change that to 9 and a vertical dimension of 5 and change that to 6, each side would be changed by a different factor and the image would look weird.
I hope this helps in your project.

Still having serious lag with all tools, don't know if anyone else is having this same issue. It has been very difficult to work with PSPX7 and I would really like to buy it after the trial period is over but this only bug will cause me to quit using this version.

Yes! I meant to post about that too and never got around to it - when running a script it takes forever to start and it even works slower than any other version except maybe X2, and that version is the pitts!TripleHeinz wrote:Still having serious lag with all tools, don't know if anyone else is having this same issue.
