Yes, you can save your ReMask image as a pspimage file. The only way to use Topaz ReMask as a stand alone is if you also buy Topaz photoFXlab which will run ReMask and the other Topaz plug-ins.

You can download a trial of ReMask to see if you like it. Personally, I love it!!
Very many thanks for your time, Kathy_9
I will go for it.
In the fullness of time I will comment on my experience.

Keeping that in mind as I mentioned in another thread :

Layer Drag and Drop is Damaged
1. In all versions of PSP, you can drag the layer thumbnail onto another image on the workspace (Untabbed docs) and you get a one click and drag copy and paste as new layer - not in X7 nada . no effect .

2. In all versions of PSP and not present in PS - you can drag a layer thumbnail into a blank part of the workspace and it makes a copy of that layer as a new image ie Copy and Paste as new image. Again this does not work.
I have to agree with Paul here. This function no longer works in X7. This needs to be corrected! I use this constantly in my work. Yes, I can copy and paste as new image or new layer if into an existing image, but that is so much more labor intensive.

That said, I love everything but the Color picker. I can see some usefulness in it, but would rather have the choice of what kind of color picker to use. You will all probably hate me for saying it, but I still love the old Windows color picker.

2. In all versions of PSP and not present in PS - you can drag a layer thumbnail into a blank part of the workspace and it makes a copy of that layer as a new image ie Copy and Paste as new image. Again this does not work.
3. This is also useful for where you have extracted an image or letters against a transparent background. In that case dragging and dropping to the workspace copies only the opaque material effectively doing a best crop and paste as new image.
Note:
The text cutter and shape cutter options on the Text tool and Shapes tools now allow the a similar result to 3 except that you now have new layers added to your image as well.
To do 1 you now must use tabbed documents and have to drag a layer from the layers palette of one image, go up to the tab of the second image til it becomes active, then drag back down to the layers palette of that image and release in its new position. Man what a drag!!!!

Mirror AND Flip Commands
In PSP8 through to X3 Flip effectivly did a Mirror Vertical and Mirror did mirror Horizontal - a squiggle on a transparent background near the margin was reflected and finished against the opposite margin.
From X4 through to X6 the squiggle was changed in place rather than mirrored. they were Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical.

With X7 we now have it standardised and both options.
Mirror (Vertical / Horizontal ) places the squiggle across on the opposite side of the canvas
Flip (vertival/Horizontal) keeps the squiggle on the same side of the canvas and changes its orientation.

Magic Fill
Is a bit like the Blemish Fixer / Scratch remover in that you havs a central section which is replaced by a sample similar to the sections bordering and within another margined section. The difference is that the section to be replaced can be any shape and not just circular or rectangular and the part it is sampling from is not defined by any margins.

Materials Palette
I miss the rainbow selector which is very much reduced to just a strip below the "HSL map"
Using the rainbow selector I could choose two different contrasting colors quickly with a left and right click for the Foreground and Background colors.
The materials palette is a bit more advanced with the ability to choose complimentary colors. You can use a color wheel or sliders to choose the colors. Unfortunately thay have not allowed the sliders and values to be controlled by the mouse wheel as with many other tools and values. With a Logitek Gaming mouse I find I can get very fine control of changing the units by single digits

Smart Edge for Brushes
This choice is imperfect and needs to be improved.
It is meant to allow drawing within a line / edge of part of an image and also can be applied to the clone and eraser brush as well. Its function is similar to the background eraser but lacking the tolerance and other features of the background eraser. The background eraser also has right left button functionality in that you can erase with the left and unerase with the right mouse buttons.
I fully agree.

The only possitive I see in new X7 is "finaly" resize of a few dialogs in Adjust and Effect menu. :D

Maybe some others can try it.

PaintShop Pro X7 has a problem with psd files.

I did some testing by producing layered files using Photoshop, PaintShop Pro and the OnOne suite, all in psd format. The result was very interesting. Both Photoshop and OnOne would open all psd files and display both layers. PaintShop Pro would open both files (the ones from Photoshop and OnOne), but displayed them with only one layer. Of course PSP could open its own file and displayed both layers, but good luck with any complex psd files from another editor.

This seems like a real bug to me.
I have imported PSD files to PSPX7 with multiple layers and they've imported just fine, showing all layers.

Why can't this be fixed? I for one have mentioned this in EVER version you have bought out.

I suppose I should be getting used to being ignored by now.
It does save .gifs on a transparent background.

Go to File, Export / Gif Optimiser. Select Use Wizard. Select Exisiting. Click each tab until the end. Give the image a name and click Save.
Go to where the file is saved or use Open in PSP and bring in your image. It will have a transparent background. Mine do! It's not PSP it's the user! Sorry :)

That is interesting. Can you be a bit more specific about how you created these files?

In my case I opened Photoshop, loaded an image, promoted it and then added a second image as a second layer. I then saved the image as a "maximum compatibility" psd file. When I opened that image in X7 it displayed only a single layer. When I reopened that same file in Photoshop it showed both layers. When I opened it in OnOne's Perfect Photo Suite it showed both layers.

I then sent that file to Corel support and they said that they opened it with all of the Corel tools and all of them, include Draw, only showed one layer. Of course it may be that there is some kind of a configuration issue here but I have found that my 2 layer image psd files (no masking, no adjustment layers) created in both Photoshop CS5.1 and Photoshop CC 2014, the first on Windows and the second on the Mac, only show a single layer when opened on X7 on my machine and, apparently, when opened by Corel support.

I am not questioning what you are saying. I am sure you are correct, but it begs the question about what is going on with the psd files on my machine when created by Photoshop.

This is the file when open in X7. You can see it only displays one of the 2 layers.

This is my 2nd trial day and i can only say good things about this new version. It'll be a buy for me after the trial period, that's for sure. Recently i've been doing video editing as well so i'll consider the photo video suite.
I could span an entire thread with all the features i like but to simplify things I'll only limit to say "it's a genius release and the hardest effort so far from Corel to create a different (and better) PaintShop Pro".

With PSP9 and X5 in my experience (not even tried X6) i may also say a few lines:

[LIKE]
- The new image dialog, i hope Corel keep updated the mobile tab with latest devices.
- The color picker seems too pro for me, still getting used to it, full featured, loved it.
- The inline sliders in the materials palette is a real win.
- Creative content in one single package.
- Extensive focus on scripting, with user guide now, absolutely a plus for advanced users.
- Set to black and white in the materials palette. Can't remember if this was in X5 but i just discovered it and was much needed.
- Impressive performance. I recently upgraded my PC so i guess it helped too. I put 2X SSD in my setup and PSPX7 boots in about 5 seconds the first time and about 3 secs the next time(s).
- Corel for taking the risk of changing old behaviors and replacing it with new functionality and controls.
- ... (to continue).

[DON'T LIKE]
- JPEG Optimizer still not fixed. Guess i'll have to move my programming skills and JPEG Exporter to 64-bit.
- Will have to create my own plugins if i want to stick to the 64-bit version. Perfectly understand how it works, no PSP fault.
- Title bar can save a few pixels by removing top padding.
- Will update post as i find new issues.
- [BUG] Classic Paint Brush lags as hell!!! Testing it against PSP9 opened at the same time and PSP9 works fluid. Increase stepping if you'd want to get it worse. 32 and 64 bit versions, 300x300px image transparent raster layer. MS Paint works better than this!

[WISH]
- Implement what is indicated in red in the image and i'll marry PSPX7 (Japanese can marry video games, why can't i marry PSP?).

I can replicate Mike's PSD multiple layers problem.

Here's a screen cap of the layers in Perfect Photo Suite 8.5 (which was saved as a PSD document):

Image

Here's the layers panel as Paint.NET reads the Perfect Photo Suite PSD file:

Image

Here's the layers panel as PhotoLine reads the Perfect Photo Suite PSD file:

Finally, here's the layers panel as PSPX7 reads the Perfect Photo Suite PSD file:

I have not been able to replicate my TIF problem reported earlier, but will continue to monitor that closely.

OldRadioGuy:

Thanks for the post. I was beginning to feel really alone with this problem.

I have uploaded 2 files showing this problem to Corel Support in connection with the ticket I opened but have not gotten any response that indicates that they understand what the problem really is. I did get the following response:

I have opened the PSD files in PaintShop Pro X7, X6 and X5 and they are just one layer. I also tested it using CorelDRAW which fully supports PSD file, still only one layer.

But I did not get the feeling from this response that they really understand that the file contains more than one layer. I told them to open it in Photoshop to see that it contains 2 layers, but I don't know if they are really paying attention. I also have OnOne and found exactly the same thing you have seen - OnOne's psd format, when loaded into X7, only makes a single layer available and all of the other information is lost. Photoshop and OnOne seem completely compatible with each other - PS understands OnOne and OnOne understands PS. X7 understands neither.

For me this is very serious. I have found that I really like X7, it is pretty much exactly what I wanted to get as a replacement for Photoshop CC and have been using it steadily but, if they do not even acknowledge that this is a problem, I will be forced to return the product and ask for a refund. I cannot use this software if it is not compatible with Photoshop and OnOne psd files.

Thanks for your post.
