Re: Large File loses size
I seem to recall that it was brought to our attention the file size was significantly changing (smaller) with X4. This was different than previous versions. http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 56#p236856 If the subsampling role was reversed this would explain a lot. That's just my suspicion.

Re: Large File loses size
If "significantly" fits going from 12meg to 2 meg, then I whole heartedly agree. The 1 & 4x4 2x2 2x2 was actually giving me a slightly larger file on the "save as".Jan Shim wrote:df and Forriner,
I came across a discussion in this forum where someone suggested that maybe COREL screwed up Chroma Subsampling in PSP X6. Compression 1 with Chroma Subsampling set to 1x1 1x1 1x1 is supposed to yield the highest JPEG quality like previous PSP versions. However he discovered that in the case of X6 it does the complete opposite with 4x4 2x2 2x2 yielding the largest file size while 1x1 1x1 1x1 reduces image size significantly. Can I say reduction in file size (without being technical) equals quality loss?
It would be interesting to see if this behaviour is carried over to PSP X7.
Jan
When I click "save" I should stay the same size file for ANY type of file. If JPG gets crushed, then something is wrong with X6. I just upgraded to X7 last night.

Re: Large File loses size
I just tried it in X7. I started with a 12 meg picture, added the text "test" to it and clicked "Save". It went to 2.65 megs. X7 is no different than X6.

Re: Large File loses size
So we now know that SAVE is broken in both X6 and X7.
Please test X7 using SAVE AS, set COMPRESSION to 1 and then try Chroma Subsampling 1x1 1x1 1x1 and 4x4 2x2 2x2 to see which one produces the biggest file size.

Re: Large File loses size
11.3 megs Original
File Save as, Uncompressed, PSP x4-x7 file type
Came out as PSP Image file at 120 Megs
When I selected options, there was not a place to do the 1x1x or 4x4 by stuff on x7 (Chroma subsampling).
My original file remained unedited while the new PSP file appeared at the larger size with my text "test2" on the PSP file
On X6, my original was edited and shrunk. On X7, my original was left intact without editing and I created the larger (120 meg) "save As" PSP file that contained my edit.
I can work with the PSP file but I can't preview it in my Windows 8.1 explorer. All I can see is the file name and the same icon for every picture. That is really a nuisance. If I had 20 files in there and they all just show icons rather than thumbnails, finding a specific picture is awkward.

Not surprising. We're talking about saving as a jpeg.eboggs_jkvl wrote:11.3 megs Original

I don't have Win8 (well I do but it's on my kids machine with no PSP on it). But in Win7 I'd make sure the file association is set to PSP.I can work with the PSP file but I can't preview it in my Windows 8.1 explorer. Control Panel> All Control Panel Items> Default Programs> Associate a file type or protocol with a program
Make sure that a version of PSP is set for .pspimage.
Then in a folder that has .pspimages I'd click Tools> Folder Options> View tab and make sure that 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' is UNCHECKED.
