Laptop verses Desktop

Post by newfielander »

Hi friends I just recently upgraded my desktop with a bunch of what I thought was great parts (over $1000.00) to make my editing life more enjoyable, well I'm shocked to find out after testing both the same projects on both my laptop and newly upgraded desktop ,my laptop rendered the project faster than my big desktop, I'm just wondering why. I was expecting my desktop to render the project twice as fast!
Here are the specs on my laptop and desktop computers, can anyone explain to me why my laptop was faster. I used VideoStudio ProX7 on both test.
Thanks

Not sure. Did you reinstall the OS? I know it's a pain, but if it's built on other hardware those other drivers may still be trying to do things. I am hesitant to actually tell you to reinstall seeing how much of a PITA it really is though.

I'd also look at your hard drive's health. Start Task Manager on the desktop, go to the Processors tab, click View> Select Columns, and put a check on Page Faults. If you see a high number then there's a problem.

Hi thank for the reply ,but first I have to tell you that the info for my laptop is wrong for some strange , I used a program call PC wizard 2013 to gather the info for me and its saying my processor is an i7 , when truly its an i5 . I have no clue why its saying that ,but anyway I have since discovered I never had my video card working at its max, I now have changed the settings and it has greatly improved the speed of my desktop, now when rendering a clip that is 17:07 minutes long the Laptop is 2 minutes and 18 seconds, my Desktop is 34 second!!!!!
Thanks

It seems bit interesting to me. As far I know your Desktop should work faster than Laptop. I am not sure why it is happening?

He just used wrong preferences and maybe old drivers. Now all is okay. He have much better CPU on desktop, that's why it's much more faster.
