Can the Title Safe area be adjusted?

I seem to remember being able to adjust the title safe area (box) but cannot find where in VS X6

I have been doing some experimenting using a scanned grid pattern as an image and creating an MPEG4 1920X1080 video and then displaying on my plasma flat panel and it seems that I lose approx 3.7% on the top and bottom and only approx 2.7% on the sides.

Firstly do I assume correctly that flat panels 'lose' less of the picture than old CRT TVs?

Is it possible to adjust the size of the title safe area box and if so where?

I don't think there is any control within VS to adjust that size. But like you I believe HDTV shows more on screen than a CRT. So I suppose the answer would lie in your own experimentation. I shouldn't take much to mock up short videos with titles in various places lower or outside the safe area line, and then see what happens on your HDTV with that title, and settle on one you prefer.But frankly, I still don't have any difficulty with the safe limit as currently set. Looks tidier on screen to keep titles a bit further away from bottom or top.... But that's of course just my personal preference...
