Yes, it is for me to say; and I've said it here before because I feel very strongly about computer security.

The Internet is a dangerous place, and the more layers of security one has, the safer one will be. Blindly telling someone to disable one of the security features in the operating system is like telling someone to have unprotected sex with strangers because "That's what everyone else is doing, and they haven't had any problems."

One needs to be realistic -- when a DEP violation occurs, that should make one think about whether the offending plug-in is so important that it's worth the risk.

So I take it that you only use a user account on your system and only use an administrator's account for installing things. You also have UAC set to it's highest level.

Being realistic, turning off DEP for a single program that you trust isn't like having unprotected sex with strangers, it's like telling someone not to kiss their girlfriend because there may be a bug they could catch.

Yes and yes -- a standard user account for all activities. I only use the admin account for installation and weekly system maintenance.

Just to be very precise: I've never questioned anyone's decision to disable DEP. That's their prerogative, and I can only hope that they understand the risks involved. I don't think that this is the place to debate the possible unintended consequences. What I do strongly object to is the simplistic "advice" given to disable a security feature, without prefacing that "advice" with a whole lot of qualifications and warnings.

I guess the comment to liken this to unprotected sex with strangers threw me off. What was I thinking?

Just noticed the new Vibrance slider in the Adjust mode. Much nicer than Saturation. I like the new Revert button too.
