Cannot create DVD

Post by bchbumgus »

Program "Stops Working" when I try to create DVD. It creates MPEG OK. As soon as I select "DVD" it stops working. I re-installed the entire program to just to be sure.
Any thoughts.

For a start it would really help if you were to post what program you are talking about. There are several versions of VideoStudio out there.

Also a bit more info other then "Stops working" is necessary. Describe step-by-step what you are doing and what message you are getting.

You say you can create an mpeg - have you tried opening VideoStudio and without importing anything go to "Share >> Disc >> DVD" will VideoStudio then open the burn module ?

If yes can you then import your mpeg in the module and continue to burn a DVD.

I have a 10 photo project loaded for test purposes. When I go to Share, all options work for playing on a computer. If I click “Disc” on this screen I go to the “Save project on disk” screen. If I click any of the 4 options on this scree I get “Corel Video Studio has stopped working”.

Hi

From Share the “create disc” is the only option that opens another window that floats over the main program.

From the edit screen adding a filter and choosing Customise also opens a new window, are you having similar problems there.

My first thoughts are to check you are using the latest Graphics Drivers.

I have the latest version of everything. Yes. This also happens from the edit menu.
I used this program for several months with no problem. I made several DVD's with no problem. Then I started to learn PowerDirector 12 and used that for a couple of months. When I tried to use VS again, the DVD function would not work. I don't have any idea what happened during the time I was not using it. I just removed the program and re-installed it hoping it would fix itself. IT DIDN'T. Sure could use some help with this. I'm out of ideas.

Have you now un-installed and removed all traces of Power Director - that could well be causing your problem.

Hi

Sorry but I cannot think why the program should crash.
My best shot was the graphics driver, but if you have checked that….

Do you have another version of Video Studio installed if so does that have the same issue, I think all versions use common burner module files?

When you re-installed did you fully remove the program, choosing to remove all personal details. Corel did provide a “Clean-up tool” for VS X7, try uninstalling using that, I have attached to this post.

You can ask the question on Corel’s Facebook, that is staffed by Corel employees,
Maybe they can suggest a reason for this.

OK. I removed VS with VSX7 Clean-up. I removedPD12. I re-insstalled VS. I tried to produce a DVD w/vs (without PDi nstalled). DEAD. "Program Stopped Working" and shut down . I produced a MPEG2 with VS and it works perfectly. Soooo. I re-installed PD12 and produced a MPEG2 and a DVD. No problem with either one.
I think it's strange that VS lost it's ability to write DVD's since I am loading it from a purchased Corel disk. The disk should not be corrupted. Since most of my DVD's are watched on TV, It looks like I have no choice but to scrap VS and go 100% with PD12. I can produce DVD's from the MPEG4 (from VS) with another program but thats a terrible workaround.
I checked the Corel site and they want $19.00 for a onetime problem solving mission. I went to the Corel Facebook site and got thoroughly confused. They should read this site and join in from time to time with their expertise.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's input to me. If I ever fing out how to fix this I will post it here for all to read.

I doubt the disc is corrupted.
I think Brian is right.
Programmes unfortunately interfere with each other, and especially burning ones. Nero is a particular problem.
Although you say you removed all traces, it is possible you didn't and unless you can find every last bit of PD in the registry etc, it will remain a problem. Sometimes it is other registry items that it has changed that remain after total removal of PD and these are nigh on impossible to find.
Often the only way to deal with such a problem is reformat, reinstall windows and then reinstall the programmes.

Can you confirm that this does or does not cause the program to crash.

If the program crashes when choosing Customise then the problem is not with the burner or discs, but maybe any pop-up window causing the crash?
