WinDVD 11 Questions, please help

Post by jessm78 »

I purchased and downloaded WinDVD 11 (not Pro) about two years ago on my laptop running Windows XP. I recently got a new computer with Windows 7 Professional. I didn't want to have to purchase it all over again, so I copied it over to the new computer and installed it. I One thing driving me nuts is that there is no way to step frame-by-frame while the DVD is paused. I read there were keyboard shortcuts for this, like "N" or "ctrl+p" & "ctrl+q", but they don't work for me at all. Am I doing something wrong, or have the keyboard shortcuts been eliminated totally? I am playing regular DVDs, not Blu-Ray ones while attempting to do this.

Also, I had WinDVD 9 on my old computer, which I enjoyed a lot more because this stepping feature was present. I don't know if I'd be able to copy it over to my new computer though, because I can't find my software license/key for it (I purchased it about 5-6 years ago). I don't even know if it would work in Windows 7. I do have my Corel account info but would I be able to get the license from them, or is it much too late?

Apologies if I sound like such a newbie, I really don't know much about how all this works. It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a video player out there that lets you step frame-by-frame. :(

Hi jessm78

and welcome to the forums.

I do not know about advancing frame by frame but will investigate that, although I have the Pro version.

1 / If you registered your program with Corel, then the serial number for the program will be on your account under Your Products/ Registered Products.

2 / There are Service packs for Win DVD Pro, whilst you are viewing the Corel Site go to Support --Patches and Updates should find the SP for Win DVD. (Maybe SP3)
I have to say that I am having some issues running the program after installing SP3.
(Playing Bluray folders – Corel are aware of this issue)

At the moment I have installed the “trial version”, activating that using my purchased serial number, maybe you could try the trial version.

Hi lata, thank you very much for the welcome.

I was able to find my serial number on my account, although I didn't see the one for version 9. I suppose they only keep such information for about two years or so? I purchased version 9 around early 2009.

I will have to check out the service packs, thanks for the heads up on those.

Ironically, I also have VLC player which does appear to have this frame-by-frame function as one of the "hotkey" keyboard shortcuts. Back when I first used it some years ago, it annoyed me due to the lack of this feature and because there was a slight delay when pausing the video (so if you wanted to make a screenshot of a certain scene, you couldn't always get exactly what you wanted). Now it seems to have reversed - VLC has the frame-by-frame function, and it pauses instantly when you want it to. In my WinDVD 11, I notice the issue of slight delay when pausing - not being able to pause instantly on what I want - and lack of frame-by-frame advance. Although I'm having other issues with that player itself, so I'm hoping I can get this WinDVD issue sorted somehow.
